PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Anyone who's been down to the Punxsutawney baseball complex this summer has certainly noticed some big changes at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field, which has long hosted the PAHS baseball team and the VFW leagues in Punxsutawney, beginning with the new dugouts and concession stand/pressbox. And with the improvements coming along nicely â€”Â yet far from reaching the status of finished project â€”Â Punxsy will have the opportunity to host a pair of tournaments over the next week including an eight-team Western Regional tournament July 28 through Aug. 1.
PUNXSUTAWNEY- The 10- & 11-year-old softball All-Stars are Section 1 champions thanks to a clutch sixth-inning performance. The Punxsy youngsters defeated Corry 9-7 Friday night to claim the title.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€”Â After the first two innings, it appeared as if Punxsy's 15- and 16-year-old VFW team might cruise to a victory over Clearfield in the opening round of the playoff tournament â€” one hosted by Punxsutawney â€” with the host leading 5-1. But Clearfield never rolled over and battled back to ensure Punxsy would need every run it scored in its 7-6 win to advance to the winners' bracket championship today.
After the game, Punxsy coach Mike Klingensmith said he thought the team played well, and that its only flaw was that, at times, it struggled to string the hits it needed together.
