Last men standing: I-Medical holds off Black Sox for Indiana Co. title

July 12, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — After splitting a pair of games with the S.W. Jack Black Sox in the championship series of the Indiana County Junior Legion League, Punxsy's I-Medical won a thrilling slugfest over the Sox Thursday night in Punxsutawney to close out the series and be crowned champions.

After the game, I-Medical head coach Doug Pennington spoke about how happy he was for his squad, which has seen most of its players play together over the past three years in Legion ball.

What a run: Minersville ousts LLSB at States

July 12, 2012

STATE COLLEGE — Every thrilling, come-from-behind victory story has another tale on the other side — a tale of heart-breaking loss. And unfortunately for the Punxsy 11- and 12-year-old All-Star softball team, its run at a state title came to an end Thursday afternoon in State College in disappointing fashion.

Punxsy led fellow western foe Minersville 1-0 and was just one out away from a berth into the final four teams and the semi-finals, but a late rally by Minersville allowed it to tie the game, send it to extra innings and go on to win by a 4-2 final score.
