STATE COLLEGE — With the level of competition elevated, and the tournament down to the final eight teams in the state for the Punxsy Little League softball All-Stars, the squad knew it would have to minimize errors and play at its best to earn a win against a tough West Point squad Tuesday afternoon in the tournament's opening game. Unfortunately for Punxsy, though, four errors helped West Point score six runs over two separate innings, and Punxsy fell 9-2 in the opening round.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Tuesday evening in Punxsutawney, top-seeded I-Medical hosted the Indiana Black Sox in the first game of the best-of-three finals for the Indiana County Youth League, and the home team earned yet another come-from-behind victory — downing the Sox 7-6 — to open up a 1-0 series lead and set up the potential series-winning game tonight in Indiana.
The Sox made things interesting with a five-run fifth, giving them a late lead, but the Punxsy squad showed no signs of quitting, tying it in the bottom of the fifth and going ahead in the sixth.
ROSSITER — The Rossiter Miners followed a seven-run second-inning surge to a 9-5 victory Tuesday night in Rossiter to open up a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-three opening round of the Federation League playoffs.
With the win, Rossiter hopes to advance to the second round, where it would meet the Brookville Grays, with a victory over Bigler on its own field today. If Bigler wins this evening, it will force a third game, winner-take-all, Thursday in Rossiter.
