PUNXSUTAWNEY â Momentum can be a strong driving force, because momentum can lead to confidence. And confidence pushes a team to play at its best. Sunday afternoon in Punxsutawney, Punxsy's 11- and 12-year-old All-Star softball team turned its momentum from a win-or-go-home victory over DuBois Friday into a District X championship with a 5-4, eight-inning victory over DuBois.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Punxsy nine- and 10-year-old Minor League softball All-Stars bounced back from a disappointing 12-11 loss to DuBois that bounced them into the losers bracket with a convincing 35-11 victory over Bradford Sunday afternoon in Punxsutawney.
"Well, I said we would bounce back, and we certainly did in a big way," Punxsy manager Rob Gemmell said after the game. "I'm just really proud of the girls and the way they played, and I'm glad that Bradford came down to play us today. Now, well, I guess we're moving on. So, we'll see what happens."
DUBOIS- The Punxsy Minor League All-Star team was defeated by DuBois, 6-1 Sunday for its second loss of the tournament. With the loss, Punxsy was eliminated from the losers' bracket.
Punxsy opened the tournament with a 10-5 loss to a tough Brookville club. It bounced back from the loss to defeat St. Marys then Johnsonburg in the losers' bracket.
It took on DuBois Sunday for a chance to play Brookville again in the championship game, but was unable to get past a solid DuBois squad.
