Four Punxsy athletes — two Chucks and two Lady Chucks — are bound for the PIAA Class AAA Track and Field Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University. (From left) Kevin Hughes (400-meter dash), Juliann Boddorf (200-meter dash), Alexis Young (1600-meter run) and Brody Morgan (javelin), pictured here taking a break from their preparation during a track and field get-together Wednesday afternoon at Jack LaMarca Stadium, will make the trip today in preparation for Friday's preliminary rounds on the track. The AAA javelin event will be held Saturday morning.

St. Laurent's one-hitter leads Raiders to championship

May 23, 2012

BROOKVILLE — Junior Nathan St. Laurent was just shy of a perfect game, giving up only one hit and one walk, leading the Brookville Raiders (13-5) to a 9-0 victory over Moniteau (11-8) Wednesday night.

"It's the first one I've had this year, and it felt really nice to actually throw seven innings," St. Laurent said. "My arm still feels great, so it's definitely a good feeling."

With the victory, St. Laurent and the Raiders will face Karns City at 4:30 p.m. today at Clarion-Limestone to decide who will become the D-IX Class AA champions.

The Zak Zone

Out in the garage, there is an old box full of trophies that were given to my brother at one point or another in his athletic career.

When he moved to Canada, he didn't have room to take all of his loot with him in his pickup truck, so he had to prioritize and make decisions about which things were essential for the trip.

The box of trophies missed the cut, and he left us with the option of seeing if there was someone who might be able to make use of the trophies and possibly donating them to that cause.
