PUNXSUTAWNEY — Entering the home half of the seventh inning tied 3-3 with St. Marys Tuesday night in Punxsutawney, the Lady Chucks softball team knew the worst case scenario was extra innings if it didn't score. The Lady Chucks also know a team should never put the bats back in its opponent's hands, and Punxsy prevented that from happening in dramatic fashion with a walk-off single by leadoff hitter Chelsea Engeholm sending it to a 4-3 victory over the Lady Dutch.
JOHNSONBURG — Facing another long ride — this time to Johnsonburg — the Punxsy boys' tennis team had another concern entering Tuesday afternoon's match, as the Rams have had the Chucks' number over the past few seasons, Punxsy head coach Todd Heigley said.
But Punxsy overcame its slump in a big way, sweeping the Rams 9-0 to pick up its second consecutive sweep after a 9-0 victory over DuBois Central Catholic Saturday.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy junior varsity softball team scored at least one run in each inning, and Nicole DiPietro pitched a five-inning, two-hit shutout as the Lady Chucks cruised to a 10-0, five-inning victory over the Lady Dutch of St. Marys Tuesday afternoon in Punxsutawney.
Perhaps the most impressive fact about the Lady Chucks' 10-run offensive output was the fact that they scored them while picking up just six hits.
