JOHNSONBURG — Punxsy's junior high track team traveled to the annual Johnsonburg Junior High Track and Field Invitational Saturday, and out of 12 teams, the Chucks took fifth place overall.
A number of Chucks helped the cause, which was led by Nathan Lingenfelter, who placed second overall in the triple jump, measuring in at 35-1.
The Chucks also had two third-place finishes. In the field events, Alex Young earned third in the shot put, throwing 38-0.
DUBOIS — Coming off a 9-0 shutout loss to DuBois can be a difficult feat to overcome, but the Punxsy Chucks boys' tennis team was not thwarted.
Saturday, the Chucks traveled to DuBois Central Catholic and easily defeated the Cardinals, 7-2, and improved their overall season record to 4-4.
Despite cold temperatures Saturday, the rain held off for the Groundhog Little League's Opening Day, during which every team across six divisions opened its season. One common way to stay warm is to keep moving, and that's exactly what Claira Stephens (pictured here) did in the opening game of the Little League softball schedule between her Blue Jays and the Indians. Stephens, wearing a necessary hooded sweatshirt — an uncommon sight in softball season — stole second base and never stopped running until she made it home, advancing on a pair of overthrows to give her team a 3-0 lead.
