Chucks have strong showing at Brookville Invite

BROOKVILLE — Some of the toughest competition from around western Pennsylvania gathered in Brookville for the Deman's Team Sports Brookville Invitational Saturday.

Punxsutawney's boys track team put its best foot forward and came up with some good performances against the steep competition.

"As coaches, our staff was very pleased to see so many kids get their personal bests for the season or at least turn in a solid effort," Punxsy head coach John Smith said.

BROOKVILLE — Although the Lady Chucks faced some of the steepest competition in western Pennsylvania Saturday at the Brookville Invitational, Punxsy had four different girls earn place-winning spots.

"There were a lot of other personal bests; they just weren't good enough to place," Punxsy head coach Barry Young said. "Overall, I was very pleased with the team's performance."

The top winners for the Lady Chucks were Kirsten Dean and Juliann Boddorf.

JV squad wins two games at Hempfield Tournament

HEMPFIELD — The Lady Chucks' junior varsity softball team began the weekend at the Hempfield Tournament facing off against Ringgold, which Punxsy beat 5-3.

During the victory, Nicole DiPietro was the strongest hitter, going 3-for-3 at bat with two singles, a double and five stolen bases. She also scored three runs.

Punxsy coach Phil Mennitti called her "unstoppable."

Ivy Phillips, who was selected the Most Valuable Player of the game, also had a strong showing. She threw four complete innings, giving up just three runs. She walked only three and struck out five.
