Constantino, Spack named Winter Sports MVPs

April 11, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The votes are in and counted, and it's official: Seth Spack and Jensen Constantino are The Spirit's 2011-12 Winter Sports Most Valuable Players.

Just over 760 ballots were cast in all, and The Spirit's readers selected Spack and Constantino for the awards.

Spack, a senior wrestler for the Chucks during the winter season, surpassed the 100-win mark, passed PAHS grad Matt Means for second all-time in Punxsy history for wins and won the District-IX championship at 152 pounds this year.

This time of year may just be the perfect time of year, as far as I'm concerned: Especially as far as the sports calendar goes.

Combining the budding of new life growing from the warm weather — though we've been mistreated with some colder-than-we-would-like type of weather over the past few days — with the sports calendar unfolding before us in early April does something to warm my heart.

After the rush of March Madness, the sports calendar quiets down a bit, though it is revving up for perhaps its busiest season of them all.
