PUNXSUTAWNEY â The Lady Chucks knew what they had in store for them when the Lady Owls of Bradford visited Friday night: An undefeated team seeking to end it's season 22-0.
And the Lady Owls came out firing on all cylinders on both ends of the court to reach their goal with a 53-26 win.
"They're very athletic, and they're very strong and that showed tonight," Punxsy head coach Randy Reitz said. "They showed us how strong and athletic they are. They took us and beat us in every phase of the game. Offensively, defensively and transitionally the beat us. We really didnt play very well."
BRADFORD â Entering Friday night's contest with the Bradford Owls, Punxsy had the advantage of already knowing it was the No. 1 seed entering the District IX playoffs.
But the Owls had the advantage of picking up a road win at Punxsy Jan. 20, and Friday, Bradford made it a season sweep, setting up an interesting potential D-IX Title Game Mar. 3 at Clarion University with a 53-38 win over the Chucks.
But Punxsy has a bye in the playoffs and won't play again until the championship game, and the Owls have to defeat Clearfield to earn the right for the rematch.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â As was the case a majority of their matches this season, the members of the Punxsy junior high wrestling team found themselves at a disadvantage Thursday against DuBois with Punxsy forced to forfeit in five weight classes, giving the Beavers an insurmountable edge in a 54-31 victory.
Without counting forfeits in the team scores, though, Punxsy would have been victorious, 25-12, in the bouts that took place on the mats.
