Chucks' furious comeback falls short to Falcons

December 10, 2012

MARION CENTER — Mounting a furious comeback, Punxsy erased a 15-point deficit to begin the fourth quarter to tie but saw A-C Valley hit four of four free throws in the final 50 seconds to pull out a 46-44 win in the Marion Center Tip-Off Championship game.

“We dug ourselves too big of a hole,” noted Chucks head coach Dirk Neal. “We played hard-nosed defense to get out of it — we trapped, pressed and forced the issue and tried to keep the ball out of (Ryan) Bartley’s hands who is a package player.”

Lady Chucks find win column through defense

December 10, 2012

MARION CENTER — It took seven games and a New Year for Punxsy to find the win column last year. The 2012-13 version of the Lady Chucks would not wait that long this season.

Punxsy used its stifling defense to build a large cushion advantage before working the clock for the 52-46 victory over West Shamokin in the Marion Center Tip-off Tournament Consolation game on Saturday morning.

“Our defense is the reason we were able to win today and how we were able to be in the game last night,” pointed out Lady Chucks coach Randy Reitz.
