DuBOIS â All athletic teams work hard and want their opportunity to be successful, gain notoriety and claim championships. Through the years, the high school cheerleading ranks have always seen their members work as hard on their cheers, dances, stunts and tumbles as any of the other athletic teams on campus.
In Pennsylvania, the cheerleading teams, though, were always listed as having to be consider an âother categoryâ of sport. The cheer squads never had their chance for due honors and district and state title acclaim.
SLIPPERY ROCK â Every road starts somewhere. The road to âThe Showâ has many routes, turns, stops and bumps to get to it. Punxsy has another potential âBig Leaguerâ ready to start his own road next fall on a not-so-distant collegiate baseball diamond.
Slippery Rock University has inked Punxsyâs Ty Zimmerman as a member of its Rock baseball team next season.
âWe are excited to get him,â commented Slippery Rockâs head baseball coach Jeff Messer. âHe is the first player we have had from Punxsutawney with its rich tradition of baseball players coming out of there.â
