PUNXSUTAWNEY – With the home stretch of the season set to begin, Punxsy equaled its volleyball win total from last year with the 10th victory of the fall, 3-0, over visiting Brockway on Monday night.
The Lady Chucks (10-3) started slowly winning the first game, 25-21, put things together a bit better in the second contest, 25-18, and finished strong, 25-10, for the sweep of the Lady Rovers. The win completes the season sweep of Brockway as Punxsy won, 3-1, on Sept. 6 on the road.
DuBOIS – After a solid 32-18 win over St. Stephens Friday night, the eighth-grade Punxsy girls' basketball team edged Marion Center, 25-23, before falling to host DuBois Central, 25-12, in the championship game of the 27th Annual Father Gregory Leopold Tournament.
"It was nice for the kids to play in the finals of the DCC Tournament," said Punxsy coach Mike Carlson. "We wish we could have played a better first half. The girls took second and should be happy with how they played most of the weekend."
With the 2-1 weekend, the Lady Chucks even out their record at 7-7.
