St. Marys floats past Punxsy girls' soccer

October 16, 2012

PUNXSUTAWNEY – With a cold wind blowing across the stadium, St. Marys lifted a ball over the outstretched hands of Punxsy girls' soccer goalie Allie Fye for what would be the game-winning goal, 3-2, with 15:05 left in the match.

"It just wasn't our game," said Lady Chucks' coach Kevin Hughes.

Sydney Dubensky provided a goal in each half to provide all the Lady Chucks' offense on the afternoon.

Dubensky netted the game's first score of the match. The Lady Dutch tied the contest, 1-1, in the 30th minute for the other goal of the opening half.

CLEARFIELD — After facing each other in both the District IX singles and doubles championships, local rivals Punxsy and DuBois met on the girls' team tennis court on Monday afternoon in Clearfield. The result ended up the same as the two regular season meetings as DuBois' depth was too much for Punxsy, giving it a 5-0 district team title.

"The girls played well tonight," commented Punxsy coach Rose Graffius. "There were some close games. It was a good ending to a great season."
