BROOKVILLE â One of the Allegheny Mountain League's top teams all season, Punxsy continued to show it Monday by repeating as the District IX AAA girls' golf champions. The Lady Chucks claimed their second-straight title by 11 strokes, 466-477, over the Lady Owls of Bradford at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville.
"Overall, I'm proud of all the girls today," exclaimed Punxsy coach Kasey Dale. "They worked hard to get to districts, and they accomplished their goal that was set at the start of the season."
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Sweeps are getting to be the norm on the volleyball court in Punxsutawney. For the fourth time in six home matches, Punxsy swept its opponent by stinging Marion Center, 3-0, on Monday night.
Punxsy (8-2) has now allowed its home opponents to win just four games in six matches for a 15-4 game win total and victories in five of six.
Senior Shayla Brink and junior Emilee States powered the Lady Chucks frontline. Both lined six kills apiece with Brink adding a pair of aces and digs while States had one dig.
PUNXSUTAWNEY â It did not take a last second touchdown pass and two-point conversion Monday night like last Friday's exciting varsity contest.
The Punxsy junior varsity football team ran away with a decisive 38-13 victory over St. Marys in Punxsutawney Monday night.
Dakota Thomas ran a punt back for a score and threw for another, while Perry Arrington and Will Harmon added two rushing touchdowns apiece to help the JV Chucks to a 3-1 record on the year.
After a scoreless first frame, Arrington found paydirt two times in the second quarter.
ST. MARYS â If not by land, turn to the air, and turn to it the Chucks did in a big way. Punxsy quarterback Garrett Zimmerman led the "Air Chucks" for 21 second-half points with the game-winning touchdown and two-point conversion coming with 11 seconds left on the clock to sink the St. Marys Flying Dutch, 21-20, Friday night.
In the shotgun, Zimmerman found Christian Falgout from five yards out to pull Punxsy to within a point, 20-19, to cap an 11-play, 64-yard drive. The touchdown was not enough though, as Punxsy went for the two-point conversion and win.
