DUBOIS — The Punxsy boys' ninth-grade basketball team earned its second win of the 2011-12 season in it's 2012 opener Tuesday afternoon at DuBois Central Catholic, 41-26.
Punxsy (2-5) jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the first quarter, and despite a strong second quarter by the Cardinals, the Chucks led at halftime and held on for the victory.
"This was by far the best game we have played all season, so far," Punxsy head cocah Brandon Krug said. "Our defense in the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the game."
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Entering Wedneseday night's contest with the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals without a victory, the Punxsy Lady Chucks basketball team did what it needed to do to secure its first win of the season with another solid defensive outing, holding DCC to eight points or fewer in each quarter en route to a 33-30 victory.
Although his team earned its first win of the season in its first game of the calendar year, Punxsy head coach Randy Reitz said his team wasn't going to dwell on the win too long.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Over the Christmas holiday Dec. 28-29, the Punxsy Chucks wrestling squad traveled to Wheeling, W.Va., for the Wheeling Park Duals, and despite a 2-5 overall record, Punxsy head coach Eric Eddy said his team "wrestled well in all the matches," as all but one of the losses was decided by one match.
The tournament was highlighted for Punxsy by four wrestlers winning each of their seven matches over the two-day tournament, including Neko Cappella, who reached the 100-win milestone during the tournament.
Although it seems a bit late to be saying this, "Happy New Year, everyone!"
Five days into 2012, I hope all your New Year's resolutions are still going strong. Only 361 days left after today, thanks to the extra one thrown in for the leap year.
Personally, I'm not much for making resolutions, because for the most part, I stink at following through with them.
For myself, the turning of the page on the calendar and in my life is more about reflecting on the things that have happened over the past year and looking forward to what lies ahead in the next chapter.
