Chucks lose tough opener against rival DuBois, 42-7

DUBOIS — After scoring two touchdowns and leading 14-7 at halftime, DuBois' varsity football team scored 28 points in the first eight minutes of the second half to defeat Punxsy, 42-7, Friday night in DuBois.

"We missed a lot of tackles right off the bat in the second half," Punxsy head coach Alan Nichol said. "I don't think anything really changed. It was just a grind-it-out game on a hot night, and fatigue probably played a factor. Their skill definitely played a part, but I think fatigue did, too."

Brookville falls in a shootout at St. Marys

ST. MARYS — The Brookville Raiders football squad opened its season as it headed to Dutch Country Stadium Friday night to take on the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen.

The Raiders were ousted by a final score of 34-28.

Brookville's quarterback Steven Kennedy led the team with 151 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Ryan Kerr was also a standout for the Raiders, rushing for more than 130 yards and scoring a 21-yard touchdown.

Brookville head coach Chris Dworek said after the game that his team was just not quite ready for the season-opener.
