PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Chucks boys' soccer squad continues to increase its record as it is now 4-1 after beating a challenging Brockway, 3-1, Saturday.
"Next to DuBois, (Brockway) was the team I was most worried about on the schedule, so I was very happy to come out with a win," Punxsy head coach Phil Shenkle said.
Shenkle called Trevor Peace the "star of the game" for Punxsy as he set up Tyler Presloid for all three of the Chucks' goals.
STATE COLLEGE — The Punxsutawney Lady Chucks cross country team headed to State College Saturday to run in the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.
All 12 of the Lady Chucks performed their season bests to help the team place eighth overall out of 13 full teams.
"The Penn State golf course is relatively fast, and that coupled with cool weather really helped all the runners perform their best," Punxsy head coach George Wehrle said. "It was an excellent day all around."
STATE COLLEGE — The Spiked Shoe Cross Country Invitational was held Saturday at Penn State, and the Punxsutawney Chucks boys' team placed fifth out of 13 complete teams.
"We had a real solid showing on the Blue and White Golf Course at Penn State Saturday," Punxsy head coach John Smith said. "As a team we finished fifth with 183 points with some great performances."
Senior Dane Baker led the Punxsy squad, running the 3.1-mile course in 17:18 and placing 20th overall out of 129 total finishers.
Smith called him "very aggressive" and said it was Baker's best race time on the course.
