The 15- and 16-year old VFW Teener League All-Star state tournament kicks off this weekend in Huntingdon, and Punxsy will be well represented as it was at the 13- and 14-year old state tournament in Punxsy last weekend.
According to Punxsy manager Mike Klingensmith, his players are ready for the tournament, though they don't seem over-confident, either.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy Pirates received the runner-up award in the 7-and 8-year old pitching machine tournament Saturday in Punxsutawney.
Five teams competed in the double-elimination format contest, and Punxsy placed second only to St. Marys.
Punxsy played five games throughout the day, losing to St. Marys during the first and last games of the tournament. After being defeated by St. Marys, the Pirates beat Kane, Johnsonburg and Cranberry to advance back to the tournament championship.
The Huey Brothers of Punxsutawney placed second in the 10 and under division of the Groundhog Tournament last weekend.
