PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” The A. J. Parise Youth Football Senior team, behind a strong defensive effort, won its home opener overÂ Brockway 30-8 Saturday at Jack LaMarca Stadium in Punxsutawney.
Punxsy's defense intercepted three passes, including one returned for a touchdown by Devin Kelly, to lead the Chucks to their first victory of the season.
"The kids came out pumped and ready to play," Punxsy head coach Joel Martin said. "We completely dominated the first half."
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” Punxsy's boys' cross country team will kick off its 2011 season Saturday at the Big Valley Boys Invitational.
Last year, head coach John Smith had a strong team highlighted by a dual meet victory over Bradford, which Smith called "the team to beat."
This season, though, will be a change for the Chucks.
"It's going to be a totally different type of team," Smith said. "We have some experience, but we're going to be highly trying to utilize some underclassmen, so we're counting on everybody this year."
PUNXSUTAWNEY â€” After opening its season 2-0 and finishing fourth in the Bolton Tournament in State College, Punxsy's boys' golf team lost its first match by just three strokes, 162-165, against DuBois Monday afternoon at the Punxsutawney Country Club.
Punxsy's head coach Josh Conrad said his team's effort wasn't a poor one, they just went up against a tough opponent.
