DUBOIS — Two months removed from his first collegiate baseball season, Punxsy's Braedon Pennington was nearly unhittable Thursday night during the Jefferson County American Legion playoffs.
Pennington, who will begin his sophomore year at Allegany College of Maryland this fall, allowed just one hit and an unearned run during John J. Fisher Post No. 62 of Punxsutawney's 2-1 victory over DuBois at Showers Field.
PUNXSUTAWNEY — Leading 2-1, DuBois added five insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning after a controversial call seemed to change the momentum, and it went on to win 7-1 in Junior League softball All-Star action Thursday in Punxsutawney.
DuBois' No. 8 hitter, Shelbie Jamison, led off the seventh with a double to the left field fence.
The next hitter, Emily Krise, hit a ground ball in the hole between the shortstop and the third baseman.
DUBOIS — Punxsy's Little League baseball All-Stars were tied 2-2 with DuBois going into the fourth inning of the brackets' final, a rematch from earlier in the tournament, but DuBois scored 11 runs in the final three innings to cruise to a 13-2 win and claim the District 10 southern tier baseball championship.
DuBois starting pitcher Noah Schneider picked up the win, pitching four innings and allowing two runs.
Schneider allowed only three hits, struck out six and walked one.
