Championship rematch starts tonight in DuBois

July 25, 2011

DUBOIS — The Rossiter Miners will have a chance at revenge as they begin the Federation League Championships against the DuBois Rockets at 6 p.m. tonight at Showers Field in DuBois.

The Miners fell to the Rockets in Game 7 of the 2010 championships, and both teams are looking for a good challenge this year.

"It's going to be a good series," Rossiter manager Rick Matthews said following Sunday's series-winner over the Brookville Grays. "DuBois got the best of us in the regular season. ... Our pitching has to step up big against them, and we need to hit the ball on their pitching, too."

ST. MARYS — Punxsutawney placed third out of 15 teams this past weekend at the St. Marys 9-& 10 year old Little League tournament.

"The two teams that were ahead of us were exceptional, but we hung right in there," Punxsy manager Mark Ewing said. "Third place out of 15 teams is pretty respectable in my eyes and the other coaches."

Punxsy began the weekend by playing three games Saturday.

Punxsy first faced Four Leaf from Clearfield and won 18-4 then immediately played Orchard Park from Buffalo, N.Y. but lost 15-11.

BROOKVILLE — The Rossiter Miners now have to win just four games in order to secure their first championship in 19 years. Rossiter will take on the DuBois Rockets in the finals starting Tuesday.

Rossiter had a convincing 12-5 win over the Brookville Grays to finish the semi-final victory.

"We did everything good tonight — the base running, the hitting and the defense," Rossiter manager Rick Matthews said. "That was a big win."

The Miners started off strong, scoring seven runs in the first inning, and it looked like the game was over from the beginning.
