CRANBERRY â Already leading 4-1, Punxsy's 10- and 11-year old All-Stars batted around in the fourth inning and scored seven runs to defeat McLane 11-1 in four innings in the opening round of the Section 1 tournament Thursday in Cranberry.
"We've been off for a whole week and were anxious to get going," manager Brad Gigliotti said. "We've been pounding the ball at batting practice and bringing in faster pitchers to get them used to it. It's paying off."
PUNXSUTAWNEY â Punxsy scored 10 runs in the home half of the first and fourth innings and batted around in all four innings en route to a 33-3 win over Curwensville in 15- and 16-year old VFW All-Star action Thursday night in Punxsutawney.
"We hit the ball when we had runners in scoring position," manager Mike Klingensmith said. "That's what we hadn't been doing, and I told the guys, 'We have got to continue to hit the ball when we have opportunities to score.'"
BROOKVILLE â Despite coming out strong and taking a 4-1 lead, the Rossiter Miners lost to the Brookville Grays, 5-4, in Game 4 of the Federation League semi-finals Thursday.
