STATE COLLEGE â State College scored five runs in the first inning, and the Punxsy baseball team's record dropped to 6-6 following a 10-4 defeat Monday in State College.
The Chucks â who scored eight runs in their final at-bat to beat the Little Lions, 12-11, April 7 in Punxsutawney â were unable to rally for the victory Monday. They cut the lead to 5-2 and 7-4 Monday, but never crept any closer.
DUBOIS â Punxsutawney was denied an individual title for the fourth consecutive year, as seniors Dave Roberts and Adam Murdock fell short in the District IX Class AAA Boys' Tennis Singles Tournament Monday in DuBois.
Both Roberts and Murdock were eliminated by a DuBois player, as the Beavers' duo of Palmer Casteel and Trey Gilmore advanced to the final. Casteel, DuBois' No. 2 player, ultimately won the championship by the scores of 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
1. How come there aren't more fans at the Punxsy baseball and softball games? I know April was uncharacteristically wet, but for a free game, much more than a couple dozen people should be in attendance every night. The Chucks have won seven-straight district titles, and the Lady Chucks are in search of their fourth straight. Combined, the two teams have lost just once at home and play on the nicest fields in the district. Come on people, show some support.
