PUNXSUTAWNEY — Taylor Neal hit a grand slam, and Ty Zimmerman drove in four runs during the Punxsy baseball team's 13-8 victory over Clearfield Thursday at Rich Kuntz Memorial Field in Punxsutawney.

The Chucks (6-4) scored five times in the first inning and never trailed during an 11-hit game that featured a home run and four doubles.

With the win, Punxsy improved to 3-1 against District IX Class AAA opponents. The Chucks beat Clearfield (5-7) and Bradford at home and split with St. Marys.

STATE COLLEGE — With 17 of the game's 20 players being upperclassmen, experience was endless between the Punxsutawney and State College softball teams Thursday in State College.

State College, however, was the team that provided the clutch hits late in the game during a 6-2 victory over the Lady Chucks, whose undefeated season came to an end.

Punxsy (7-1) scored single runs during the fourth and six innings, but the lack of big hits led to its first loss of the season.

Punxsy manager Alan Pifer said that his team seemed flat, didn't hit the ball well and hardly hit the ball hard.
