PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy softball team lost three regular-season games last year, and two of them were to DuBois.
This season, an 0-2 record against the Lady Beavers just wasn't going to fly for the Lady Chucks.
Punxsy (5-0) overcame a 4-1 deficit, tied the game in the fourth inning and pulled ahead for good during a 6-4 victory over DuBois (3-1) in a battle of undefeated District IX powerhouses Thursday afternoon at Harry Noerr Field in Punxsutawney.
BROCKWAY — The Punxsy boys' tennis team bounced back from Wednesday's 6-3 loss in DuBois with a 9-0 victory Thursday in Brockway to even its record at 3-3.
A constant line that Punxsy head coach Todd Heigley mentioned was his team's ability to respond to various situations Thursday after struggling Wednesday.
"(This win is) a big confidence builder," Heigley said. "We made the adjustments at the right time. We didn't make as many mistakes that we've had in previous matches."
BROOKVILLE — Brookville shortstop Kelsey Heinrich and third baseman Abby Beatty shut down the left side of the infield during the Lady Raiders' 7-3 win over Karns City Thursday afternoon in Brookville.
Heinrich and Beatty gunned down eight Lady Gremlins base runners, helping Tonya Shaffer complete a one-hitter, which gave Shaffer her second varsity win.
"I'm proud that we didn't give up," Henrich said, "And that we fought back and won even though we were behind for 90 percent of the game."
