HYDE — The Punxsy boys' basketball team didn't shoot well and had numerous turnovers during a 50-39 loss to Clearfield Wednesday night, but the Chucks still clinched a home playoff game in the process.
Punxsy (8-13) shot 34 percent from the field and had 16 turnovers, but due to Bradford's 51-36 loss to Elk County Catholic, the Chucks will be the No. 2 seed and the Owls will be the No. 3 seed in the semifinals of the District IX Class AAA playoffs.
Clearfield (5-17) will head to St. Marys (16-7) on the other end of the bracket.
BROOKVILLE — Thirty minutes into the boys' basketball game Wednesday night, it looked as if Brookville would have to wait another year to win a District IX League title.
The DuBois boys' basketball team came out and punched the Raiders (19-2, 8-2 District IX League) in the mouth to start the game. The Beavers (9-13, 4-6) played tough defense, shot the lights out and didn't allow Brookville to take the lead for three quarters of the game.
This caused some concern on the Raiders' sideline.
BRADFORD — The Punxsy junior-high wrestling team had no trouble at all during its match Tuesday night in Bradford.
Thanks to eight forfeits and victories in six of the other eight bouts, the Chucks routed the Owls, 84-9.
The Chucks (14-2) led 48-9 with eight weight classes remaining before the match concluded with six forfeits in Punxsy's favor and two no contests.
Registering wins on the mat for Punxsy were Darin James, Matt Burke, Levi Campbell, Logan Rend, Keegan Fischer and Travis Perry. All six won by fall.
