Next stop for the Lady Chucks: District Finals

October 10, 2011

PUNXSUTAWNEY — By defeating the Lady Owls of Bradford 5-0 Monday afternoon in Punxsutawney, the Lady Chucks' tennis team advanced to the District IX team competition finals next Monday against DuBois.

The format for the first-round playoff between Punxsy and Bradford was different than the regular season format, with each team fielding three singles players and two doubles pairs with no repeats allowed.

In the No. 1 singles, Punxsy's Anna Monyak used good drop shots and consistent volleying to earn Punxsy's first point in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Emily Hardy.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Despite suffering a 3-0 loss at the hands of the DuBois Lady Beavers Monday afternoon in Punxsutawney, the Lady Chucks' soccer team was upbeat and positive about its performance after the game, and Punxsy head coach Kevin Hughes said he was "ecstatic" at the way his team played.

"I'm really excited about the way the girls played tonight," he said. "Even though we lost, I'm pretty excited with what I saw. It's been a rough season, but I'm definitely not ready to give up any games after the way we played.
