PUNXSUTAWNEY — Senior guard Jenna Reitz tied the school record with seven three-pointers, and the Punxsy girls' basketball team notched its first victory of the season Monday night over Clearfield, 57-48.
Punxsy trailed 20-19 at halftime before scoring 38 second-half points and improving to 1-4 on the season.
"In the second half, they played really hard, and they executed a lot better on the offensive end," Punxsy head coach Randy Reitz said about his team. "They moved the ball, they got better looks, and when you get better looks, it's easier to shoot the ball."
PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy ninth-grade girls' basketball team has definitely hit its stride, as the Lady Chucks won their fifth-straight game with a 59-3 victory over Clearfield Monday night in Punxsutawney.
The Lady Chucks (5-1) — who have all eighth-graders on their roster — didn't allow a point until the second half, leading 31-0 going into halftime. Punxsy kept up the pressure during the second half, outscoring the Lady Bisons 28-3 during the final two quarters.
Anna Horner had a huge game, scoring 20 points. Half of those 20 points were scored during the fourth quarter.
BROOKVILLE — It just wasn't a good night to be a Karns City boys' varsity basketball fan.
After knocking down a three-pointer to start the game, the Gremlins failed to score again until the 5:44 mark in the second quarter.
Oh, and the Raiders couldn't miss a shot, either.
Brookville quickly erased the deficit by outscoring its opponent 26-3 in the first quarter alone en route to an overwhelming 72-25 victory.
That one-sided score could have easily been even worse had both teams not emptied the benches late in the first half and throughout the second half.
