Lady Chucks struggle at season-ending state tournament

November 15, 2010

PITTSBURGH — Saturday at North Hills High School, the Punxsy volleyball team didn't look anything like the group that won every match but two and easily swept its way to a district championship this season.

Unfortunately for the Lady Chucks, their worst performance came at the start of the PIAA Class AA playoffs, and after compiling a 1-8 record through nine sets of action Saturday, their season came to a close.

Defense helps Raiders advance to district title game

CLARION — A dominating defense made the difference Saturday night, as the Brookville Raiders suffocated Moniteau in the second half during a 14-7 win over the Warriors at Clarion University's Memorial Stadium in the District IX Class AA Semifinal.

The win erased a three-game playoff losing streak to the Warriors for Brookville, but most importantly, put the Raiders in the district championship game Friday against the 10-0 Brockway Rovers at Clarion University.
