Chucks stressing defense and intensity in first week

November 26, 2010

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy boys' basketball team — which features a half-dozen football players — is looking to use the school's football success as a jumping-off point in 2010-2011, rather than worrying about last year's struggles on the hardword.

The Chucks finished 4-17 overall in 2009-2010, including 0-12 in the D9 League. But rather than looking back to last season, Punxsy has its sights set on the year at hand under first-year head coach Dirk Neal

Chucks counter technique with conditioning

November 24, 2010

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Punxsy wrestling team will be the first to admit that it isn't as technically-sound as District IX Class AAA rivals Clearfield and DuBois.

To make up for that, the Chucks strive to be the most well-conditioned, determined and toughest team around.

As the Chucks are a few days into their first week of 2010-2011 preseason, the words of Dan Gable are often spoken by head coach Eric Eddy and assistant coach Buddy Young, who have been coaching Punxsy wrestling for nine years now.

Brockway overpowers Raiders to win title

November 20, 2010

CLARION — The Raiders knew heading into the District IX Class AA Championship Game at Clarion University's Memorial Stadium that they had to be nearly flawless to keep pace with the undefeated Brockway Rovers Friday night.

Four turnovers, an inability to capitalize on limited opportunities and an ineffective defense against one of the best quarterbacks statistically in the history of Pennsylvania, and Brookville was in for one long night.
