William E. White, 87

July 16, 2014

William E. White, 87, of Punxsutawney, died on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Born Oct. 31, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of the late Benjamin E. White and Goldie M. Cross White.

After graduation from high school, William served from 1944 till 1946 in the U. S. Navy.

He was married to Rose Ann Lattanzia on May 17, 2001, in Independence, Missouri. She survives and lives in Punxsutawney.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Winifred G. Hysong Randall, 90

Winifred G. Hysong Randall, age 90, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, a former resident of Punxsutawney, passed away on July 15, 2014, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1923, in Punxsutawney, to the late Lee Howard and Hazel (Dilts) Spangler.

Winifred was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist City Church.

William W. Schlemmer, 67

July 14, 2014

William W. Schlemmer, 67, North Huntingdon, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1947, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Carl and Olwen James Schlemmer.

Prior to his retirement, Bill was employed by Penn State Tool & Die with more than 40 years of service.

He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Italian Miners and the American Legion.

His most favorite pastime was time he spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julie, in 1999.

EuGene “Gene” Ferra, 94

July 11, 2014

EuGene Donald Ferra, 94, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Carmen and Carmella (Cappella) Ferra.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine E. (Longo) Ferra.

On July 9, 1955, he married the former Marjorie Anderson, who survives.

Mr. Ferra was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, being in Co. K – 76th Infantry Division.

He fought in France, Luxembourg and Germany, where he was wounded.

Vivian C. (McCullough) Faser, 76

Vivian C. (McCullough) Faser, 76, of Blairsville, Pa., died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, Pa.

Vivian was born on Feb. 16, 1938, in Nanty Glo, Pa., the daughter of James McCullough and Olive (Drew) Hetrick.

Lawrence "Amos" Ray Gaston, 78

Lawrence “Amos” Ray Gaston, 78, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 27, 1936, in Montgomery Township, Indiana County, a son of the late Boyd Ray and Sarah Henrietta (White) Gaston.

Mr. Gaston was a United States Army veteran who dutifully served his country.

On May 16, 1959, he married the former Gladys Evelyn Milliron. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2014.

Amos was a devoted husband and lovingly cared for his wife during her illness, in spite of his own health issues.

Donald “Tom” Q. Bowers, 85

July 6, 2014

Donald “Tom” Q. Bowers, 85, of Rossiter, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Bowers was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Hillman, the son of the late Harvey B. and Dora Maye (Niel) Bowers.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine R. (Humble) Bowers, on May 12, 2002.

Mr. Bowers was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 66.

Regina Dawn Pearce, 45

Regina Dawn Pearce, 45, of Rural Valley, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at her residence.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1968, to Hilton and Rose (Sciarrini) Hollenbaugh in Punxsutawney.

Regina worked as a LPN for Nurse Finders and American Staffing.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, “NCIS,” “Game of Thrones” and watching “Cops,” but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Arch Serian, 89

July 4, 2014

Arch Serian, 89, of Rossiter, died Thursday, July 3, 2014,
in Punxsutawney.

He was born April 23, 1925, a son of the late Arch and Jennie (Senott) Serian.

Mr. Serian was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during World War II.

In May of 1951, he married the former Phyllis G. Altman. She survives and resides in Rossiter.

He worked as a foreman at Loree Footwear until it closed.

Arch was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, and he devoted many years of service to maintaining the church, the grounds and the cemetery.
