Alice Jean Burkett, 85, Summerville, died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.
She was born June 27, 1925, in Brookville, a daughter of the late Harry B. and Florence (Galbraith) Hetrick.
She was married to Thomas F. Stahlman, who preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1950. She then married Albert W. â€śGroundyâ€ť Burkett, who preceded her in death June 23, 1997.
Mrs. Burkett worked for Sylvania in Brookville and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookville.
Lindsey Ellen Sweet, 50, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Mt. Laurel Nursing Home, Clearfield.
She was born March 2, 1961, in Ipswich, Mass., a daughter of the late David Eugene and Ellen (Lavoie) Cook.
She served the country as a U.S. Marine directly after graduation from high school.
Aug. 19, 1990, she married Paul Joseph Sweet, after reconnecting with one another at their 10-year high school reunion.
Janice M. (Hetrick) Kuntz, 72, DuBois, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at her home.
She was born Aug. 11, 1939, in DuBois, the only child of the late Harold F. and Edna Mae (Hickman) Hetrick.
June 30, 1967, in DuBois, she married Donald Walter Kuntz, who preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1994.
She graduated from Sandy High School in 1957 and attended DuBois Business College.
Mrs. Kuntz was Methodist by faith and attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church.
Barbara Ellen Kotula, 92, Lucerne Mines, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at St. Andrewâ€™s Village.Â
She was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Eleanora, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Annie (Lewis) Collins.
She was married to Theodore F. Kotula Sr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kotula was a member of St. Maryâ€™s Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City, where she was very active in the Ladiesâ€™ Guild.Â
She was also a 1936 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a member of the Greek Catholic Union, Lodge No. 62, Punxsutawney.
Minnie L. Lawson, 76, formerly of Mahaffey, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Ridgeview Elder Care Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.Â
She was born July 21, 1934, in Gilford, N.C., the daughter of the late Jasper and Nannie (Bennett) Highfill.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her husband, Paul Lawson, of Punxsutawney.
Interment was held Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mahaffey.
Arrangements were under the direction of Waldron Funeral Home, Mahaffey.
John (Jack) L. Jordan, 76, Erie, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Monday, May 30, 3011, at the Golden Rehab Living Center, Erie.
He was born Dec. 31, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late U.D. and Margaret Irene (Heitzenrater) Jordan.
Mr. Jordan was a member of Presbyterian Church of Punxsutawney. He was retired from Community Action and The Punxsutawney Spirit.
Helen J. Buck "Teetie," 91, Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Foxburg, Clarion County, a daughter of the late John Sherman and Mary Adalide (Best) McCoy, who moved to Punxsutawney in 1932.
July 5, 1937, she married Rufus L. Buck, who preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1973.
They had two daughters, Rosalie and Sandra, and moved their family to Cleveland in 1952.
Elizabeth K. "Betty" Stewart, 73, Stump Creek, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.Â
She was born Aug. 29, 1937, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Edgar Blain and Jean (Hetrick) Slick Sr.
She married William M. Stewart, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Stewart attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Punxsutawney. She was retired from Jensen and enjoyed being on her computer.
Esther Jane Powell, 75, Punxsutawney (Porter), died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born July 6, 1935, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Howard W. and Helen Marie (Kromer) Yeaney.
June 5, 1953, she married Laird H. Powell, who survives, of Porter.
Mrs. Powell was a member of the North Freedom United Methodist Church until she moved to Porter and became a member of the Porter United Methodist Church.
She was the co-owner of Powellsâ€™ General Store in North Freedom for 20 years.
Marian Ruth (Rolls) Stamler, 81, passed away quietly in her sleep Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Kimes Nursing and Rehab in Athens, Ohio, after a hard-fought battle with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. She maintained her dignity, grace and an amazing sense of humor until the end.
She was born March 9, 1930, in Indiana, a daughter of Silas Alvin and Sara LuEllen (Armstrong) Rolls.
She married Glen Algernon, who preceded her in death.
