William “Bill” C. Charles Jr., 77

William “Bill” C. Charles Jr., 77, Glen Campbell (Smithport), died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Hamilton, a son of the late William Clair and Bertha (Johnson) Charles Sr.

Aug. 14, 1965, he married his wife of more than 45 years, Ruth A. (Brickell) Charles, who survives, of Glen Campbell.

Mr. Charles was a member of the Smithport United Methodist Church.

Lula M. Covert, 90

Lula M. Covert, 90, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at her home.

She was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Coolspring, a daughter of the late William and Alice I. (Burkett) Frederick.

She was married to Earl C. Covert, who survives, of Punxsutawney. They were married 67 years.

She attended the Chestnut Grove Independent Church.

John E. “Jack” Kovalyak, 81

John E. “Jack” Kovalyak, 81, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.

He was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John and Anna (Kallas) Kovalyak.

He was married to Shirley (Dorworth) Kovalyak, who preceded him in death. They were married Aug. 30, 1952.

Mr. Kovalyak was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byznatine Church.
He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He was hard-working and independent all his life, and was very fond of his four-legged friends, especially his dog, Roxy.

Jeffrey Scott Marshall Sr., 53

Jeffrey Scott Marshall Sr., 53, Punxsutawney, died Friday, March 11, 2011. 

He was born Oct. 17, 1957, in Inglewood, Calif., a son of Gloria Jean West, who survives, and the late John Homer Marshall Jr.

Mr. Marshall was a graduate of LaQuinta High School in Fountain Valley, Calif. He then attended Golden West College and Cypress Junior College.

He worked as a creative director, most recently with IUP, teaching the Art Masters Program, specifically for art and theatre. He had previously taught art to elementary and high school Punxsutawney Christian School students.

Larry W. “Red” Miller, 55

Larry W. “Red” Miller, 55, Juneau, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home.

He was born June 28, 1955, in Warren, Ohio, a son of the late Theo C. and Lornabelle (Hollen) Miller of Mahaffey.

Mr. Miller was employed by Hettager Drilling Company.

He enjoyed being with his family as they trapped and hunted together. Many will remember him as “Red,” in his L88 Camero racing at Clearfield Speedway.

Andrew Vincent Petroff, 82

Andrew Vincent Petroff, 82, Sewickley, died Saturday, March 12, 2011. 
He was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Michael and Julia (Jurcenko) Petroff.

He was married to his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Midock) Petroff, who preceded him in death.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War.

Wilda M. Prushnok Pfeil, 83

Wilda M. (Raymer) Prushnok Pfeil, 83, Indiana, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

A daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Raymer, she was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Emeigh.

She was first married to her husband of 41 years, Raymond John Prushnok, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Prushnok Pfeil was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a dedicated Christian and servant of the Lord. She had many friends and enjoyed corresponding with them frequently.

Trisha Lee (O’Hara) McCallister, 46

Trisha Lee (O’Hara) McCallister, 46, Plano, Texas, died Friday, March 4, 2011.

She was born Feb. 19, 1965, in Sandusky, Ohio, a daughter of Ernest and Phyllis (Smith) O’Hara, who survive, of Indiana.

She grew up in Huron, Ohio, and was a 1983 graduate of Huron High School.In 1987, she graduated from Bowling Green State University and later attained her CPA license.

Samantha Jo Painter, 22

Samantha Jo Painter, 22, Big Run, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at home.

She was born March 11, 1988, a daughter of Ernest Ray and Diana Sue (Haag) Painter Jr., who survive, of Punxsutawney.

Miss Painter was a 2006 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. She then completed an online dog grooming course.

She attended Chestnut Grove Independent Church.

Miss Painter was a daycare attendant at Little Dreamers Daycare in Big Run.

John M. McMillen, 92

March 9, 2011

John M. McMillen, 92, Marion Center, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born in 1918 in South Mahoning Township, a son of the late Samuel A. and Emma (Martin) McMillen.

He was married to his wife of 63 years, Helen M. Plyler McMillen, who survives.

Mr. McMillen was a member of the Punxsutawney Alliance Church for 63 years, having served as elder and a board member for more than 30 years.

For 35 years, he was a director with the Indiana County Conservation District, and was named district director emeritus.
