Thomas B. Barkley, 79, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at home with his family at his side.
He was born Nov. 19, 1932, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Joseph H. and Sarah Ruth (Orr) Barkley.
Dec. 20, 1953, he married Joan Work, who preceded him in death Dec. 23, 1970.
Feb. 3, 1974, he married Louise Lewis, who survives.
Mr. Barkley was a member of the Presbyterian Church, where he served as a church elder.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1950.
Dale Houser Brink, 79, Brookville, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.
He was born May 16, 1932, in Thompsontown, a son of the late Lawrence and Bernice (Houser) Brink.
July 15, 1954, in Berwinsdale, he married Beverly L. Lewis, who survives.
He was a member of the First Church of God in Brookville.
Mr. Brink spent 28 years in Jamestown, N.Y., working at Crescent Tool Co. until 1976, when the company moved its operation to Sumter, S.C.
Ruth Marie Digges, 82, Brookville, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at McKinley Health Center, Brookville.
She was born Jan. 11, 1929, in DuBois, a daughter of Lester J. Haney and Mabel M. Heberling.
She married David (Dick) McManigle, who preceded her in death.
May 12, 1962, she married G. Edwin Digges, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Digges was a member of the Brookville Hospital Auxiliary and the Jefferson Manor Auxilary.
She was an avid golfer and bowler who enjoyed entertaining friends and family.
Antoinette (Belott) Astorino, 88, a lifelong resident of Walston, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney.
She was born Oct. 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Samuel and Rachel (Bianco) Belott.
June 6, 1946, she married Ross Astorino, also a lifelong resident of Walston, who preceded her in death Nov. 13, 2001, ending a union of 55 years.
Mrs. Astorino graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1941. She was employed by Jordanâ€™s Furniture Store, which required a daily walk from Walston to Punxsy.
George Colburn Bowers, 95, died Dec. 16, 2011, while visiting family in Gladwin, Mich.
He was born March 2, 1916, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late William Arthur and Edith Blanch (Winslow) Bowers Sr.
Mr. Bowers was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Â
George J. Shedlock, Jr., 78, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Moran, a son of George J. and Elizabeth (Holeva) Shedlock Sr.
He married Mary Lou (Anthony) Shedlock, who preceded him in death Jan. 25, 2005.
Mr. Shedlock was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was also a member of many lodges, including the American Legion, Eagles Lodge No. 1231, the Walston Club and Labor International Union No. 905.
Mary Louise Hosack Wayland, 86, DuBois, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at the DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Allegheny County, a daughter of the late James and Hilda (Brocious) Hosack.
Sept. 10, 1955, in Ringgold, she married Robert O. Wayland, who survives.
She was the owner/operator of Wayland Agway from 1959-1992. The business is still in the family.
Mrs. Wayland was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in DuBois.
She was also a member of the Bereans at First United Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Lillian K. Swartzlander, 88, Luthersburg, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at the DuBois Nursing Home after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Olive (Nolder) Kirk.
Aug. 13, 1954, she married Joseph Swartzlander, who preceded her in death Nov. 16, 2004.
Alexander Simon Dubensky, 81, of DeLancey died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born March 7, 1930, in DeLancey, a son of the late Michael L. and Mary (Quashnock) Dubensky.
He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Church in Punxsutawney.
April 18, 1959, he married the former Mary Ellen Zelman, who preceded him in death Aug. 10, 1993.
Mr. Dubensky was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country during the Korean conflict.
He worked as a machinist for Star Iron Works for more than 30 years.
Margaret L. Stiteler Orr, 70, of Indiana, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born in 1941 in North Mahoning Township, a daughter of the late James H. and June L. (Van Horn) Coon.
She married Richard Orr, who survives, of Indiana.
Mrs. Orr was an active member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Smicksburg for her entire life.
She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
