Daryl M. Kicher

Daryl M. Kicher, 84, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Wellington Heights.

He was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Sykesville, a son of the late Joseph and Lydia (Burhenn) Kicher.

Aug. 19, 1948, he married E. Jean Hoover, who preceded him in death Nov. 19, 1980.

Mr. Kicher worked for Auto Parts in Punxsutawney and the U.S. Postal Service.

He attended the Chestnut Grove Independent Church and enjoyed playing tennis, gardening and traveling.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Nancy Kicher of Forest, Va., and Jackie Pryber of Knox; and two granddaughters.

Minnie Bryce Abraham, 88

July 29, 2011

Minnie Bryce Abraham, 88, well-known resident of Clymer, went to heaven peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, July 27, 2011, at Grace Healthcare in Franklin, Tenn.

She was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Clymer, the daughter of James and Agnes Clayton.

She was married to Howard “Hub” Abraham, who preceded her in death in 1996, for 50 years. Together, they pioneered Little League Baseball in Clymer, an organization they served for more than 40 years. Clymer’s “Hub Field” is named in honor of Howard Abraham, inducted into the Indiana County Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

Christopher Jordan Gardner, 21

Christopher Jordan Gardner, 21, Glen Campbell, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, in Montgomery Township, Indiana County.

He was born June 4, 1990, in Indiana, a son of Van E. and Regina B. (Brink) Gardner, who survive.

Mr. Gardner was a 2008 graduate of Purchase Line High School, where he was active in sports. He was employed as a driller for Aztec Well Services.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting; fishing; archery; scouting for deer and turkey; and riding his ATV.

Robert Blaine Shields Sr., 71

Robert Blaine Shields Sr., 71, Rochester Mills, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center in DuBois.

He was born Aug. 11, 1939, in Marion Center, a son of the late William Guy and Esther Alice (Salsgiver) Shields.

Mr. Shields served in the U.S. Army as an S4 during the Vietnam War.
He was a fabricator at Polyvision in Dixonville.

John Ray Curry, 59

John Ray Curry, 59, Mahaffey, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011.

He was born April 30, 1952, in Punxsutawney, a son of Wilma Curry, who survives, of Mahaffey, and the late Ray S. Curry.

June 16, 1973, he married his loving wife, Debra K. (Bennett) Curry, who survives, of Mahaffey.

Mr. Curry was Protestant by faith and a member of the Mahaffey Methodist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in November 1977.

Bethany “Beth” Sue Peterson, 29

Bethany “Beth” Sue Peterson, 29, Clymer, died Monday, July 25, 2011, in Grant Township, Indiana County.

She was born Oct. 2, 1981, in Indiana, the daughter of Larry G. and Glenda S. (Edwards) Peterson, who survive, of Clymer.

Miss Peterson was a member of the Marion Center First United Methodist Church in Marion Center, where she was active with the church’s music ministry. She served as the choir accompanist; played piano for Sunday services; and was a member of both the bell choir and the brass ensemble.

Kathleen "Kathie" Shepherd, 67

Kathleen "Kathie" Shepherd, 67, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at her residence.

She was born April 20, 1944, in Dayton, a daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy (Icher) McKain.

Aug. 7, 1987, she married Wes K. Shepherd, who survives.

Mrs. Shepherd was the regional commissioner for the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York Scottish Highland Clan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two aunts, Mildred and Ethel Icher.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011, in the Rural Valley Cemetery.

John “Andy” Todd, 90

John “Andy” Todd, 90, passed from this life Sunday, July 24, 2011. 

He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Jefferson County, a son of the late John H. and Edna Lingenfelter Todd.

Mr. Todd served in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in various stateside locations and on the island of Tinian until December 1945.
While in Great Bend, Kan., Mr. Todd met Arlene Notestine. After the war, he returned to Burdett, Kan., and they wed Jan. 25, 1946. She preceded him in death.

Gary B. Travis, 48

Gary B. Travis, 48, Reynoldsville, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, following an auto accident along Route 36, near Punxsutawney.

He was born Oct. 5, 1962, in DuBois, a son of Marie (Manners) Travis, who survives, of Reynoldsville, and the late Nolan Travis.

Mr. Travis was employed by Smith Drilling, where he was a well driller, and he was a member of the Eagles Club, Walston Club and St. Joseph Club.
He loved the outdoors, as well as both hunting and fishing.

Peggy J. (Bracken) Price, 64

Peggy J. (Bracken) Price, 64, Burnside, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at her home.

With heavy hearts, we say good-bye to our wife, mother, Nana and friend, who died after a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Mrs. Price was a long-time devoted member of the Burnside Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, where she shared her love of the Lord with the community children as a Sunday School teacher,VBS teacher and youth leader. She was also a member of the choir and quartet, as well as being instrumental in planning many of the holiday activities at the church.
