Richard Q. "Rich" States, 84, of Rossiter, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born March 8, 1926, in Rossiter, a son of the late Reed and Edna (Henry) States.
Mr. States served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.
He was retired from the DG Mock Company.
Mr. States enjoyed his truck and his tractor.
Robert Clair Campbell, 94, of Brookville, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at McKinley Heath Center, Brookville.
The son of the late Preston and Olive (Lewis) Campbell, Mr. Campbell was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Punxsutawney.
Mr. Campbell was married to Elizabeth (Shaffer) Campbell, who preceded him in death in 1992.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a manager a United Refinery.
Harold Don Gaston Sr., 84, of Winchester, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at the home of his daughter.
He was born June 9, 1926, in Canoe Township, Rossiter, a son of the late Aaron and Minta (Seger) Gaston.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Joyce D. Craig, 78, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
She was born July 20, 1932, in Stockton, N.Y., a daughter of the late Doyle Frary and Margaret (Clark) Davis.
Ms. Craig was a member of the Light of Life Mininstry.
John V. Taladay, 75, Rockville, Md., passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011.
He was born in Punxsutawney and graduated from Penn State University. He moved to Baltimore in the 1950s and later moved to Rockville, where he lived for more than 40 years.
Mr. Taladay spent several years working for the railroad, and worked with some of the first computers in existence. He also worked for the Vitro Corporation for 30 years where he met his wife, Joann, and many wonderful friends.Â
Carol J. Smith, 61, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at the DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born March 31, 1949, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Carlo and Mary (Bellerillo) Bruno.
She was married to Thomas Smith, who preceded her in death April 25, 2003.
Mrs. Smith was a member of SS. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Church Parish Council.
She worked as a secretary for Quaker Industries of Punxsutawney.
Leonard B. Ryen, 87, Rochester Mills, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney.
He was born March 4, 1923, in Rochester Mills, a son of the late Allen and Amanda (Potts) Ryen.
He was married to Dorothy "Peg" (DePetro) Ryen, of Rochester Mills, who survives.
Mr. Ryen was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Rochester Mills United Methodist Church, John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534, the Punxsutawney VFW,Â I.O.O.F. Lodge in Rochester Mills and the Rochester Mills Rod & Gun Club.
Carl H. McKee, 94, of Steffy Church Road, Rossiter, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Banks Township, Indiana County, a son of the late John W. and Dora C. (Houck) McKee.Mr. McKee was a graduate of Glen Campbell High School.
Mr. McKee was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany and France during World War II.
Jan. 15, 1947, he married Elizabeth Kinter of Marion Center.Â She preceded him in death May 20, 1995.
He was a member of Steffy United Methodist Church, where he also taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Gerald E. Ferguson, 69, Big Run, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at his home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Dansville, N.Y., a son of the late Esther (Musteri) Ferguson.
Mr. Ferguson was an auto mechanic and attended the Free Grace Church in Punxsutawney.
Surviving relatives include a son, Jason Ferguson of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; three daughters, Terri Sidwell and husband of Todd of Galton, Ohio, Gerri Ferguson of Punxsutawney and Loretta Cassett of Florida; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Margaret "Peg" Edretta Chamberlain Couser, 99, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011.
She was born Jan. 18, 1912, in Punxsutawney, and lived a long and wonderful life.
She was married to her husband of 60 years, Ralph C. Couser, who preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Couser was involved in numerous charitable organizations and social clubs. She was the president of the Hospital Women's Auxiliary; chairperson of the Red Cross Auxiliary; a Red Cross nurse's aide; and a blood bank donor.
