James I. Lewis

James I. Lewis,  82, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John and May (Airgood) Lewis.

He was a member of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Lewis owned a convenience store in Cloe in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

His hobbies were fishing and hunting.

Surviving relatives include a brother, Garland Lewis and wife Maria; a sister, Donna May Wells; and nieces and nephews.

Frances V. Pape Stojek, 83

Frances V. Pape Stojek, 83, DuBois, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.

She was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Galletta) Pape.

Sept. 16, 1948, she married Albert "Snuffy" Stojek, who preceded her in death May 29, 1970.

Mrs. Stojek graduated from SS. Cosmas and Damian High School in Punxsutawney in 1946.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reynoldsville and a former member of S.S. Cosmas and Damian Church in Punxsutawney and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in DuBois.

Anthony Test, 89

Anthony Test, 89, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at UMPC-Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born June 25, 1922, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John P. and Frances (DelPrincipe) Test.

April 24, 1948, he married Grace E. (Motter) Test, who survives, of Punxsutawney.

Mr. Test was the former owner of the Matterhorn Co. in Punxsutawney.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a private first class. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Test was a member of SS. Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church, Punxsutawney.

Ruby Elaine Bowser, 90

Ruby Elaine Bowser, 90, Treasure Lake, DuBois, formerly of Big Run, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 8, 1921, in Vandergrift, a daughter of the late Earl and Melda (Blystone) Stouffer.

Aug. 17, 1940, she married Arnold Bowser, who preceded her in death Dec. 29, 1982.

Mrs. Bowser attended the First Baptist Church in DuBois, and previously, the First Christian Church when she lived in Big Run.

John Edward Kline, 73

October 4, 2011

John Edward Kline, 73, of Brookville, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at McKinley Health Center.

He was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Brookville, a son of the late Bernard “Bun” and Kathryn (Baker) Kline.

June 17, 1961, he married Helen Esther Reed, who preceded him in death Nov. 17, 2008.

He served in the U. S. Army.

Mr. Kline worked as diesel shop foreman for the Pittsburgh Shawmut Railroad.

He helped start the “Hit and Miss Engine Society,” which later became the Coolspring Power Museum.

Mary Elizabeth Mohney, 72

Mary Elizabeth Mohney, 72, Reynoldsville, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was born May 8, 1939, in Reynoldsville, a daughter of the late Clair A. and Mabel Elizabeth (Hollenbaugh) Douthitt.

Sept. 14, 1968, she married Glenn Francis Mohney, Sr., who survives. They enjoyed 43 years together.

Mrs. Mohney was a member of the Bollinger Bible Church.

For more than 10 years, she sold Tupperware, which she enjoyed because she liked talking with people.

She really enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting and working on puzzles.

Ellen Marie Stear, 85

Ellen Marie Stear, 85, Punxsutawney, died  Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center, DuBois.

She was born Feb. 7, 1926, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Gourley S. and Hazel A. (Vanderpool)  Bair.

She was married to Ermond L. Stear, who preceded her in death Jan. 21, 2004.

A homemaker, Mrs. Stear was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church of Juneau.

Esther M. Battaglia, 85

Esther M. Battaglia, 85, Brookville, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Jefferson Manor.

She was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Big Soldier, Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Matthew and Esther M. (Laverick) Leiberton.

Nov. 6, 1947, she married Pat Battaglia, who preceded her in death in 1979.

Mrs. Battaglia was a member of the Brookville United Methodist Church.

Helen L. Bell, 80

Helen L. Bell, 80, Falls Creek, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Nelson's Golden Years, DuBois.

She was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Reynoldsville, a daughter of the late Edward and Nellie (McMahan) Dorworth.

June 30, 1957, she married Robert D. Bell, who preceded her in death June 14, 2008.

Mrs. Bell graduated from Reynoldsville High School in 1949.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Falls Creek.

Mary Merry DeJohn, 90

Mary Merry DeJohn, 90, Sykesville, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Christ the King Manor after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Eriton, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Merry) Cowan.

She married Merino DeJohn, who preceded her in death in 2002.

A graduate of Sykesville High, Mrs. DeJohn was a homemaker.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sykesville. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Atlanta Braves, as well as walking, playing cards and bingo.
