Vernon C. Martin, 82, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
He was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Trade City, a son of the late Elmer W. and Idabelle Gaul (Martin).
March 25, 1950, he married Marian Gahagan Martin, who survives.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Trade City. He was a member of the Mahoning Grange No. 1732 and a National Guard veteran.
He was a retired farmer who also had a trucking and excavating business.
Lulu G. Swineford, 90, Brookville, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Brookville Hospital.
She was born March 10, 1921, in Knox Township, a daughter of the late Thomas W. and Blanche Hopkins.
Feb. 11, 1943, in Columbus, Ga., she married Miles T. Swineford, who preceded her in death May 4, 1988.
She was retired from Owens-Illinois in Brookville.
Richard Brink, 79, Rossiter, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Bethanny Place, Indiana.
He was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Glen Campbell, a son of the late John and Vernie (Janocha) Brink.
He was married to Betty M. (Serian) Brink, who preceded him in death Aug. 7, 2006.
Mr. Brink was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.
He was Catholic by faith and a graduate of Rossiter High School. He was employed by the Rossiter Water Treatment Plant and was a member of the Local ICMSA of Indiana.
In his spare time, he played trumpet with local bands.
The good Lord took home William G. Kelso Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011.
He died at Brookville Hospital at the age of 92.
Mr. Kelso was born June 19, 1919, in Brookville, the son of the late Arthur E. and Bessie B. (Smith) Kelso.
In 1981, he married Florence (Dolly) B. Hetrick, who survives.
Mr. Kelso graduated from Brookville High School in 1938 and joined the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed four years in Australia in the Pacific Theater as a radio operator on a C-47 transport plane.
Philip E. Gerhard, 84, of Henderson, Neb., formerly of Weatherly, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, in Henderson.Â
He was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Hudsondale, a son of the late Robert Jonas and Florence (Smith) Gerhard.
Aug. 27, 1955, in Weatherly, he married Miriam A. Richie, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Gerhard obtained an associateâ€™s degree in animal husbandry from Penn State. A World War II veteran, he was a longtime dairy farmer in Pennsylvania before obtaining his master blaster certificate in explosives.
Evelyn D. (Wise) McElwain, 86, of Big Run, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Brookville Hospital.
She was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Clair and Linnie (Black) Fetterman.
April 21, 1946, she married James L. Wise, who preceded her in death April 17, 1984.Â She then married Elmer Joseph McElwain June 13, 1998, who preceded her in death in 2001.
Mrs. McElwain worked and retired from Arco Speer Carbon in Elk Run.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening and bowling.Â She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post 62 in Punxsutawney.
Sharon L. Haag, 54, Brookville, died, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at home.
She was born Nov. 1, 1956, in Erie, a daughter of the late Stanley Edward and Avis Irene (Hosbach) Klepfer.
Aug. 27, 1977, in Brookville, she married David E. Haag, who survives.
Mrs. Haag worked as an RN at Brookville Hospital in the OB Department and most recently at the Nurse Family Partnership.
She was a member of the Center Hill Community Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and AWANA Leader. She enjoyed teaching Bible studies and previously taught pre-natal classes at Brookville Hospital.
Twila M. Enterline, 95, Punxsutawney, formerly of Mahoning Towers, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born April 16, 1916, in Grange, a daughter of the late Frank and Esther (Doverspike) Smith.
She was married to Kenneth W. Hinderliter and then Samuel P. Enterline, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Enterline was a housekeeper at Blose-McGregor Health Care in Punxsutawney.
She was a member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney.
Robyn L. Voss, 54, Mahaffey, passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 20, 1956, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Charles R. "Dick" Fetterman and Margaret "Peggy" (Hunter) Fetterman, who survives, of Mahaffey.
She married Robert Voss, who survives, of Mahaffey.
Mrs. Voss was employed by Ames for 17 years, and she was also employed at Mahoning Outdoor Furnace.
She played softball for theÂ Burnside Women's League.
Gerald Gilbert Waite, 67, Punxsutawney, formerly of Frenchville, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011.
He was born July 20, 1944, in Madera, a son of the late Orrie and Ethel Mae (Wilks) Waite.
July 25, 1964, he married the former Darlene Kay Randolph, who survives.
Mr. Waite was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Punxsutawney.
He worked as a plumber and maintenance man for the West Branch School District and Allied Mechanical in State College.
