Betty Jane Strong, 86

Betty Jane Strong, 86, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born July 6, 1925, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Boyd Guy and Velma Jane (Crisco) Hicks.

Aug. 21, 1948, she married her husband, Paul M. Strong, who survives, of Punxsutawney. They were married 64 years.

Mrs. Strong was a very proud homemaker who took pride in keeping her home.

She was the last surviving member of her family.

Charles Thomas "Turtle" Kime, 62

Charles Thomas "Turtle" Kime, 62, Luthersburg, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at home.

He was born May 1, 1949, in Cherry Tree, a son of the late Charles S. and Emma (Hertzog) Kime.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam conflict.
Mr. Kime was an avid outdoorsman and love to hunt and fish.

John Frederick Rylke, 67

John Frederick Rylke, 67, Punxsutawney, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester.  

He was born Nov. 10, 1944, in Revloc, the youngest of eight children born to Carl and Josephine (Janiszewski) Rylke.

Edna B. Anderson, 95

April 26, 2012

Edna B. Anderson, 95, Fordham, died Wednesday, April, 25, 2012, at Wellington Heights, Punxsutawney.

She was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Frostburg, a daughter of the late Russell and Elizabeth (Douthit) Means.

June 20, 1938, she married Lorren (P.a.) Anderson, who preceded her in death May 27, 1993.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Valier United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed baking, cooking, quilting, bowling and watching the Pirates.

She was the last remaining member of her family.

Charles John Hook, 76

Charles John Hook, 76, Mooresville, N.C., formerly of Mahaffey, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.

A graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Mr. Hook was a pipefitter by trade for General Motors in Lockport, N.Y., having served on the Apprentice Program.

He was a member of the UAW Local 686 in Lockport and sang in the glee club at General Motors.

Charles M. Westover, 63

April 25, 2012

Charles M. Westover, 63, Burnside, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 26, 1948, in Westover, a son of the late Arthur M. and Luetta C. (Dixon) Westover.

He was married to Barbra (Bouch) Westover, who survives, of Burnside.

Mr. Westover was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.

For 27 years, he worked for Northern Cambria Fuel and also for Shad Spencer, a job which he truly enjoyed.

Donald P. Ryman, 81

Donald P. Ryman, 81, Streetsboro, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, at the Aurora Manor in Aurora, Ohio, and has rejoined his beloved wife, Patricia, in heaven for eternity. 

He was born May 17, 1930, in Buffalo, N.Y., and was adopted by the late Mahlon and Katherine (Floetke) Ryman of Big Run.

March 8, 1952, in Winchester, Va., Mr. Ryman married his sweetheart, Patricia Strachan, and they resided in Big Run for a brief time. She preceded him in death in 1988.

Glenn E. “Buzz” Powell, 82

Glenn E. “Buzz” Powell, 82, Brookville, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at the McKinley Health Center, Brookville.

He was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Ringgold, a son of the late William G. and Arveta M. (Snyder) Powell.

March 9, 1952, he married Charlotte M. (Smith), who preceded him in death Feb. 22, 2001.

Mr. Powell served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He was the owner and operator of Powell’s Garage & Rebuilds in Roseville and enjoyed sprint car racing.

Charlotte S. Himes, 94

Charlotte S. Himes, 94, Coolspring, died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Worthville, a daughter of the late Quay and Eliza (Straitiff) Doverspike.

Ms. Himes was a school teacher for 43 years at Punxsutawney Middle School, where she taught reading and English.

She was a member of the Coolspring United Methodist Church.

Ms. Himes loved and enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Connie and Leslie, her boys, Tanner and Brodi, and her beloved cats.

Raymond Frederick Dush, 77

April 23, 2012

Raymond Frederick Dush, 77, Brookville, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Brady Township, Clearfield County, a son of the late Pirl and Ella (Bailor) Dush. 

Aug. 7, 1960, he married Dorothy (Jean) McCracken, who survives, at the Richardsville Baptist Church.
