William R. Colgan, 84

William R. Colgan, 84, Dayton, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Lucerne, Indiana County, a son of the late James and Elda (Jeffries) Colgan.

He was married to Elizabeth Colgan, who preceded him in death in 1987.

Mr. Colgan was a resident of Dayton for more than 50 years. He was most recently employed by the Doverspike Brothers Coal Company until his retirement in 1987.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and caring for his Pomeranian, Digger.

Ruby Beatrice Caldwell, 98

Ruby Beatrice Caldwell, 98, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Live Well Estate in Hillsdale.

She was born Sept. 13, 1913, in McCalmont Township, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Lydick) Smith.

Oct. 2, 1942, in Takoma Park, Md., she married John Paul Caldwell, who preceded her in death April 12, 2006.

Mrs. Caldwell worked for many years at Murphy’s in Punxsutawney. She was a member of the First Church of God in Punxsutawney.

For many years, she sang with the Sweet Adelines and also bowled. She loved to cook, bake and sew.

John Phillips, 75, Covode

John Phillips, 75, Covode, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 16, 1936, in Allport, the only child of the late John and Jane (Pribilsky) Phillips.

May 6, 1967, he married Patricia (Venesky) Phillips, of Carrolltown, who survives.

Mr. Phillips was a 1954 graduate of Barnesboro High School and worked in Buffalo, N.Y., before being drafted into the U.S. Army.

Ursula Concetta (Mondi) Albino, 76

Ursula Concetta (Mondi) Albino, 76, Walston, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born July 7, 1935, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (Adams) Mondi.

In 1969, she married Joseph “Muz” Albino, who survives.

Mrs. Albino was a special education teacher in the Punxsutawney Area School District for 35 years.

She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned her master’s degree from Penn State University.

Thelma Roberta (Corey) Schlemmer-Mahan, 91

Thelma Roberta (Corey) Schlemmer-Mahan, 91, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.

She was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Donora, a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Scarborough) Corey. 

During the Great Depression, she and her family returned to the Corey Roundtop homestead in Bell Township, overlooking Punxsutawney. 

Thelma graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1939 and lived in or near Punxsutawney for the rest of her life.

Barbara A. Mennetti, 68

May 11, 2012

Barbara A. Mennetti, 68, Rossiter, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by family.

She was born July 6, 1943, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Nick and Mary (Miller) Monoskey.

Oct. 3, 1964, she married John Mennetti, who survives. They were married for 47 years.

Mrs. Mennetti was a woman of strong faith and attended the Rossiter United Methodist Church.

She was a very proud homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, being outdoors and camping. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Allen Leroy "Roy" Pearce, 82

Allen Leroy "Roy" Pearce, 82, Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Nanty Glo, a son of the late John Henry and Bertha (Wright) Pearce.

He was married to Betty Jane (Peace) Pearce, who preceded him in death Jan. 23, 1989.

Surviving relatives include a sister, Virginia Sandler; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dottie Erckman and Flora Pearce; and a brother, Jack Pearce.

John W. “Bill” “Smokey” McMillen, 75

John W. “Bill” “Smokey” McMillen, 75, formerly of Brookville and Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Brookville, a son of the late Howard C. and Mary A. (Sarvey) McMillen.

Dec. 14, 1958, in Emrickville, he married Rose Richards, who preceded him in death in 1970.

Mr. McMillen worked as a laborer for Humphrey Charcoal of Brookville, and he was active in the Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Company for 25 years.

Eileen L. North, 83

Eileen L. North, 83, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Andrew and Grace (Lorenzo) Capirosso.

April 3, 1951, she married I. Taylor North, who preceded her in death July 4, 1992.

Mrs. North was a lifelong resident of Punxsutawney and a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church. She attended SS.C.D. school and graduated from there in 1946. She was involved in activities within the church and the school throughout her life.

Barbara Helen (Dubensky) Rosman, 75

Barbara Helen (Dubensky) Rosman, 75, Sykesville, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 26, 1937, in Adrian, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Kvashnock) Dubensky.

Aug. 30, 1958, in Sykesville, she married Joseph Myron Rosman, who survives.

Mrs. Rosman was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in DuBois.

She worked at Cameron in Reynoldsville and was also a seamstress at Ideal Products in Sykesville.

She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and travel.
