Raymond Joseph DeFoor, 69, of Cambridge, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 12, 1944, in Youngstown, and was the son of the late Albert Eugene and Bessie Mae (Hobba) DeFoor.
Mr. DeFoor retired in 1992 from GTE after 30 years of service.
He was a 1963 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a member of Center United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Robert Ananea.
Frona D. Burkett, 88, of DuBois, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, at DuBois Nursing Home.
Mrs. Burkett was born May 26, 1926, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late David L. Buterbaugh and Jessie D. (Clawson) Buterbaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joy James Burkett, on April 15, 1985.
Frona was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Sykesville.
Tonjia Renee Testut, 35, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
She was born July 2, 1979, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of the late Alexander and Linda (Harmon) Testut.
She was a nurse.
She is survived by her fiancÃ©, Darryl Asburay; three sons, Jacob Asburay, Zachary Asburay and Tyler Asburay, all of Punxsutawney; and by two brothers, Richard Testut and wife Annette, and Dan Testut and wife Toni.
Joseph Dynako, 87, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Penn Highlands Brookville.
He was born Feb. 12, 1927, in NuMine, a son of the late John and Josephine (Zak) Dynako.
On May 1, 1948, he married Irene D. âRenieâ (Sovich) Dynako, who preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1995.
He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II.
Joseph was the owner and operator of Television Service Center in Punxsutawney.
Nancy Jeane Lazorchak, 54, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, surrounded by friends and family.
She was born March 30, 1960, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of Joseph and Lola Jeane (Ritzie) Lazorcak.
She graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1978 and then went on to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated in 1982 with a BA in Special Education.
She worked as a learning support teacher in the Punxsutawney Area School District since 1983.
Donald E. Snyder, 75, of Summerville, Pa., died on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Brookville Hospital.
Born July 24, 1938, in Ashland Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Amos Stewart Snyder and Esther Jane Showers Snyder.
Donald obtained his GED and later completed a machinist course at Williamsport Community College.
Donald was a veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force until his discharge in 1960.
On June 25, 1960, Donald was married to Patricia M. Wyse in Summerville.
Donald was a lifelong truck driver.
Elizabeth J. "Tootie" Henry, 75, of Brookville, died Tuesday July 22, 2014, at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville.
Born Oct. 15, 1938, in Kissinger Mills, Clarion County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wesley Rayburn Mathers and Jean Louise Slagle Mathers.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Redbank Valley High School. On Aug. 30, 1958, she was married to M. Alan Henry in New Bethlehem. She worked as a secretary until she retired in 2002. Elizabeth was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Brookville. She enjoyed singing, being with family and her church.
Hazel B. Yeager, 94, a 70-year resident of New Bethlehem, died early
Monday morning, July 21, 2014.
Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Worthville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Paul and Dollie (Geist) Nolf.
She married Walter L. Yeager on June 27, 1940. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 2000.
Hazel worked as a cashier at the A&P Store and Comet Market.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem.Â
Hazel enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She was a caring person who liked doing things for others.
Samuel J. States, 77, of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
A son of the late Charles and Alma (Filler) States, he was born on Oct. 11, 1936, in Punxsutawney.
On March 20, 1965, he married Joy (Bell) States, who survives.
Samuel was a graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and traveled to ports worldwide. He managed the kitchen on the ship and brought his culinary skills to good use throughout his life, especially through coordinating many dinners at his beloved church.
John Matthew Piszker, Jr., 72, of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at home with his family.
He was born March 26, 1942, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late John Matthew Piszker, Sr. and Thelda Louise (McQuown) Piszker.
He was Catholic by faith.
Mr. Piszker was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served on the USS Independence during the Vietnam War.
On Dec. 11, 1965, he married the former Mary Ellen Depue. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
John worked as a service manager at Stockdale Mine Supply until his retirement after 39 years.
