George C. Carey, 54, Rossiter, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 16, 1959, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late George J. and Audrey Claire (Painter) Carey.
On Dec. 24, 2011, he married Connie (Bair) Ryen Carey, who survives.
He worked as a Service Technician at KPM/Herkules Group in Ford City, Pa.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his Harley-Davidson and ATVs and family activities.
He was also a sponsor for Narcotics Anonymous for many years.
Dorothy R. Deeley, 88, Punxsutawney, formerly of Anita, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Jefferson Manor.
She was born April 20, 1925, in Anita, a daughter of J. William and Ruby
Mae (Treharne) Radaker.
On Aug. 23, 1947, she married Charles Deeley, Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2008.
She was a member of the Anita Assembly of God, where she also served as their treasurer for over 40 years.
She was a lifetime resident of the Anita and Punxsutawney areas.
Clifford C. "Clyde" Neal, 84, of Sportsburg, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at DuBois Nursing Home.
Mr. Neal was born April 29, 1929, in Furnace Run, the son of the late Reece and Ruth (Anthony) Neal.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donnabelle (Muth) Neal, of Sportsburg. They were married May 20, 1961.
Mr. Neal was a member of the Sportsburg United Methodist Church.
He was a loving family man who thought the world of his family and grandsons.
Betty J. Smith, 89, of Grove City, formerly of La Jose, passed away
Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Orchard Manor in Grove City.
Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 22, 1924, in La Jose, a daughter of the late Henry and Daisy (McMaster) Michael.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Smith, on Jan. 21, 2007.
She was a member of the Grove City CMA Church.
Betty was known by everyone as a friend and prayer warrior.
Her interests were other people, which was cross generational.
She was a woman who chose to speak words of encouragement rather than criticism.
Mary Jane (Beck) Ackerd died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was married to Bernard Ackerd, and they lived in Punxsutawney all their lives.
They had one son, and he died when he was an infant.
Mrs. Ackerd was a member of SS. Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be private and held at a later date.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Ackerd, and her infant son, James Ackerd.
Eugene Miller North, 86, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born on March 20, 1927, in Panic, a son of the late Roy W. and Lillian (Miller) North.
Mr. North served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He was one of the last Charter members of the VFW Post No. 9044 in Big Run.
He was first married to Emma Jean Kline, who preceded him in death. He later married Mary Louise Richardson. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
Frances Evelyn (Narvey) Mocek, 97, DuBois, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, one day after celebrating her 97th birthday.
She was born Jan. 18, 1917, in DuBois, the daughter of the late Philip and Aniela (Kolek) Narvey (Nawoj).
She married Charles Mocek, who also preceded her in death.
She attended Sandy High School and was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
She had worked at Sylvania in Emporium and later at Rockwell in DuBois, and then, after getting married, she became a homemaker and lived in Punxsutawney for many years.
Elizabeth Ann Grube, 67, of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Grube was born Nov. 4, 1946, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Jack Hill and Juanita J. (Stephens) Hill.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Eugene Grube of Punxsutawney.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Church of God, where she performed in the Living Christmas Tree for many years.
She was a nurse at DuBois Regional Medical Center, where she worked in the Home Health and Wound Center.
Charles Leroy Fox, 78, of Big Run, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Henderson Township, a son of the late Kenneth Blair and Bessie Uretta (Reed) Fox.
On June 1, 1957, he married Sara Dee White. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2013.
He was a devoted and loving husband to her.
He attended the First Church of God.
Chuck worked as a machinist at Star Iron for more than forty years.
He enjoyed hunting, riding his bike, gardening, woodworking and being outside.
Michael S. Morris, 93, a resident of Hunter Personal Care Home, Aliquippa, died on his birthday, Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Heritage Valley Health System, Beaver.
He was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Horatio, Pa., the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Seaman) Morris.
He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was also a member of the GCU Lodge No. 189.
Mr. Morris was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife, Elizabeth Morris.
