John M. Pearce, Jr., 76, of Covode, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at home.
He was born Oct. 22, 1937, in Winslow, a son of the late John Miles Pearce, Sr. and Vera Jane (Pierce) Pearce.
On May 9, 1959, he married the former Barbara R. Shields. She survives and resides in Covode.
John was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for more than 30 years.
He was the owner and a driver of coal trucks for Pearce Trucking and had also worked in construction.
Dennis Andrew Smith, 49, of Hamilton, died on Aug. 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1964, the son of Myrna Burkett Smith and Bruce Smith.
Dennisâ€™ family includes three brothers, Doug Smith of Hamilton, Brad (Amber) Smith of Punxsutawney, and Greg (Natalie) Smith of Brownstown; five nephews; three nieces; one great-niece; and three great-nephews.
He worked with gas wells and logging.
A private memorial service will be held at the family's convenience.
Doris L. "Dot" Young, 76, of West Decatur, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Clearfield Hospital.
Mrs. Young was born on Aug. 15, 1938, in Stockton, Georgia, a daughter of the late George W. and Verlie Mae (Stokes) Delk.
She is survived by John C. Young of Punxsutawney.
She was a member of the Mahaffey United Methodist Church. She loved God.
Doris was a corrections officer for the Clearfield County Jail, a Cub Scout Leader, Bell Township Civil Defense Director, an EMT for Mahaffey Area Ambulance and a member of the Grandmothers Club.
Adeline "Ade" Kessler, 83, of 24 Chestnut St., Kane, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at her residence.
Born Nov. 27, 1930, in Punxutawney, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Manfredo.
On Aug. 6, 1954, in Punxutawney, she married Joseph Kessler, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kessler was a registered nurse at the Kane Community Hospital.
She was a member of St. Callistus Church and a member of the CD of A Court Callistus No. 66.
Janis L. Mumau, 57, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at home.
She was born July 8, 1957, in Indiana, Pa., a daughter of late Edward E. and Delores J. (Neiswonger) Shick, who survives.
She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in sociology.
She worked at the Community Guidance Center as a family-based therapist.
She enjoyed flowers, crafts, reading, baking, cooking, camping, fishing, the outdoors, and the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.
James K. Fugate, Sr., MD, 84, passed on to eternal life with our Lord Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born May 7, 1930, in DuBois, to the late Howard Fugate Sr. and Sarah Kathryn Fugate (nĂ©e Kethledge) and was raised in Sykesville.
He was married to Mary Hanna, who survives him.
James was a 1948 graduate of Sykesville High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 1952.
In 1956, he received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia.
Omer B. Emerick, 84, went to be with The Lord on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Akron Ohio.
Omer was born and raised in Rochester Mills, Pa., and moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1961 to join his brothers in the trucking industry.
He worked as an over the road driver and retired from Jones Motor Co.
Omer was the youngest and last surviving sibling of his immediate family.
Omer was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.
He enjoyed bluegrass music, dancing and spending time with his family.
Marion L. "Lorrie" (White) Shields, 65, of Rossiter, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born in Middlesex, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Charles Joseph White and Viola (Rouse) White Deyarmin.
She was a member of the Rossiter American Legion.
Lorrie was a selfless, free spirit who knew how to enjoy life. She was big-hearted and generous beyond measure.
She was an avid animal lover.
Charles Dean Bell, 80, of New Bethlehem, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1933, to Clarence Monroe and Pearl Edna (Reed) Bell in Dora, Jefferson County.
Dean attended the Distant Baptist Church.
He graduated from Brookville High School in 1952.
Dean retired in 1985 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Armstrong County, as an engineer.
He was a former deputy game warden from 1960-1965 in Jefferson and Clarion counties.
William H. Powell, 56, of Knox Dale, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1957, in Punxsutawney, the son of Harold â€śHudâ€ť and Janet E. (Burford) Powell.
He married Paula L. (Hess) on Oct. 23, 1998.
Bill was a truck driver and served in the United States Army Reserve.
He loved his family and his dogs. He was an avid sports fan, especially fond of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed riding his side-by-side and hunting.
