William L. "Yank" Klohr, 58, of Marion Center, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Mr. Klohr was born June 8, 1955, in Rochester Mills, a son of the late George F. Klohr, Sr. and Nancy (Orcutt) Klohr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.
Yank loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and riding four-wheelers.
Betty Jane Hinkle, 94, Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville.
Betty was born in Butler County on Oct. 2, 1919, the daughter of Gertrude (Clark) and Clifford Heeter.
On Oct. 31, 1940, she married William J. Hinkle of Punxsutawney. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1988.
She graduated as valedictorian in 1935 from Ss. Cosmas and Damian High School.
She retired from the B&O Railroad as a weigh master clerk after 40 years of service.
Grace M. Huber, 92, Marchand, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Wellington Heights in Punxsutawney.
She was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Vandergrift, a daughter of the late Jerry and Lena (Johns) Huber.
She was a member of the Marchand United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She was the guardian for her nieces, Elena and Sheila Dorr, and her nephew, Karl Van Huber.
Ruth Helen Bloom, 93, of Big Run, formerly of Troutville, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Grampian (Chestnut Grove), the daughter of the late Milard and Sophia Sheesley Bloom.
She was a homemaker and founding member of the Bible Fellowship Church in Chestnut Grove.
She was very active with the development of the church from the beginning.
She also loved spending time with her family.
Michael Joseph Dubensky, 83, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Adrian Hospital, a son of the late Peter and Anna (Kostiak) Dubensky.
Mr. Dubensky was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Michael was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church.
He was married to the former Elizabeth L. Williams. She preceded him in death in 1977.
Michael shared 30 years of his life with Doris June Ansinger. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
George S. Gardiner, 91, Punxsutawney, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 1, 2014.
He was born June 2, 1922, in DuBois, the son of George A. and Martha (Newell) Gardiner.
On Aug. 24, 1946, he married Mabel V. (Orris) Gardiner. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2008.
George was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania and received his masterâ€™s degree in education from the Penn State University.
He was a retired Industrial Arts teacher at Punxsutawney High School, where he taught for 35 years.
Jared Wm. Clemmer, Jr., 84, of Barto, companion of Helen Faust, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his residence.
Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late Jared W. Clemmer Sr. and Bertha (Kramer) Clemmer.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Jared worked for Merck Sharp and Dohme, most of his life as a truck driver, retiring at age 63.
Jared is well known in the community for his beautiful farm and his many "creatures."
Douglas J. Flick, 79, York, Pa., and Clearwater, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in Clearwater.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margie Sebring Flick; children Ken (Jean) Flick, Jack (Pam) Flick and Sheila (Ron) Banzon-Flick; and four grandchildren, Maggie, Madison, Peter and Deans; and his sister, Joyce Mead.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude; his father, Ed; and a brother, Jim.
He was a 1952 graduate of Warren Area High School.
Velma L. Peffer, 73, of Big Run, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Penn Highlands DuBois, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Peffer was born July 27, 1940, in Rochester Mills, a daughter of the late Herbert and Ester (Hawk) Miller.
She is survived by her loving husband, Charles F. Peffer, of Big Run. They were married Oct. 2, 1964.
Velma was retired from Standard Pennant, where she was a seamstress for many years.
Mrs. Peffer was a member of the First Christian Church in Big Run and a member of the Ladies Bible Study Group.
She loved sewing and was a wonderful seamstress.
Judith Gordon Philp, 74, of Thompson Street, Brookville, lost her battle with cancer Tuesday April 29, 2014, at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1939, in Reynoldsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Ellen L. Vandivort Gordon. She was married to Dr. Fred Philp on July 28, 1962.
She was a graduate from Reynoldsville High School and Penn State University, with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Penn Hills prior to her marriage and raising her family in Brookville.
