Paul Angelo Zinzella, 63, of Rossiter, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at home with his family.
He was born June 6, 1950, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Harry Zinzella and Adela Marie (Ferrara) Zinzella.
His mother survives and resides in Rossiter.
On Jan. 20, 1979, he married the former Regina Sue Wasicki. She survives.
He enlisted in United States Army as a senior in high school and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a member of the 135th Assault Helicopter Company, Experimental Military Unit (EMU).
Lawrence (Larry) White, 86, died peacefully at his home on May 16, 2014, in St. Marys, Georgia, from effects of a major stroke suffered two weeks earlier.
He was born in Indiana, Pa., the son of Foster J. and Elda (Reeger) White, and grew up in Canoe Ridge and Juneau.
He graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1947 and attended two years at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana.
He married Nelda Faye Randall, then took up residence on a farm above Juneau.
In addition to farming, he repaired appliances for his brother Forrest and worked other jobs in the Punxsy area.
Costanzo "Buck" Verdill, 88, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.
Mr. Verdill was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late James and Caroline (Rich) Verdill.
On Aug. 14, 1948, he married Eleanor (Leasure) Verdill, who preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 1988.
He was a member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian Church.
Buck worked 40 years for Cement Local 526 of Pittsburgh as a cement
finisher and a life member for the Elk Run Fire Department.
His pride and joy was gardening and planting flowers around his home.
James L. Sprankle, 90, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Sprankle Personal Care Home.
He was born April 19, 1924, a son of the late George and Carmen (Harwick) Sprankle.
He attended the First Assembly of God Church.
He was a retired tree trimmer for Penn Lines.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the United States Air Force, and was a member of the Rossiter American Legion.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, gardening and going to sales and auctions.
Carole G. Mankovich, 67, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at her home.
She was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Edward A. and Geraldine (Beech) Gerst.
On May 23, 1971, she married Dr. Dennis G. Mankovich, who preceded her in death on March 20, 1990.
She was a graduate of Slippery Rock University.
She was a member of the Library Board and the Irving Club. She enjoyed quilting, teaching and reading.
Helen R. Berger, 95, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Mulberry Square.
She was born May 21, 1919, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Homer G. and Margaret (Heitzenrater) Dunmire.
She attended Saints Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and crafts.
She was a waitress until the age of 75.
Surviving relatives include a sister, Vera Morford of California, and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard W. Burkett, 73, of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Burkett was born June 20, 1940, in Brookville, a son of the late Leonard J. and Ruth (Stormer) Burkett.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances C. (McDonald) Burkett.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a Military Police Officer.
Leonard worked many years as a foreman for G.E. in Erie before returning to Punxsutawney to work for Yenzi Coal Company before retirement.
He absolutely loved to ride his Harley as much as he could. He also enjoyed fishing and flower gardening.
Thomas W. Siesky, 57, of Victor Avenue in Warren, Pa., formerly of Brookville, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Warren General Hospital.
He was born Aug. 7, 1956, in Brookville, the son of Jane Brooks.
He is survived by his companion, Susan Slater, of Warren, Pa.
Thomas worked as the owner and operator of the American Hotel in Brookville.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pirates. He was previously a member and active in Ducks Unlimited.
Gifford âBudâ Sheesley, 83, of Economy, Pa., died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, May 24, 2014.
Born May 30, 1930, in Hamilton, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert and Lossie Smith Sheesley.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Sheesley; two brothers; and five sisters.

After a life fully lived, JD Taladay, 82, departed this Earth much later than he expected, on May 22, 2014.
Born Sept. 27, 1931, in Punxsutawney he was baptized Jerome Cosmas Damian at the church of the same name, where he was a lifelong parishioner.
Many called him Jerry; he invariably referred to himself as simply JD.
A 1949 graduate of SS.C.D. High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and served in a combat zone during the Korean War.
