Judith Gordon Philp, 74, of Thompson Street, Brookville, lost her battle with cancer Tuesday April 29, 2014, at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1939, in Reynoldsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Ellen L. Vandivort Gordon. She was married to Dr. Fred Philp on July 28, 1962.
She was a graduate from Reynoldsville High School and Penn State University, with a degree in elementary education. She taught at Penn Hills prior to her marriage and raising her family in Brookville.
M. Clementine Smouse, age 80, passed away Tuesday April 29, 2014, at the Buffalo General Hospital Buffalo, N.Y., surrounded by family.
She was born Martha Clementine Stiver on Sept. 8, 1933, in Punxsutawney, one of two daughters born to Edward and Alice (Jordan) Stiver.
Clem married Raymond Smouse on Oct. 18, 1952, at the home of her parents in Cloe, Pa. Raymond survives.
Richard T. Holmes, age 67, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his residence in Erie, Pa. Born Jan. 2, 1947, in Florence, S.C., he was the son of the late Richard Holmes of Interlachen, Fla., and Margaret (Allison) Holmes of Punxsutawney.
Joseph P. Matts, Jr., 65, South State Street, DuBois, died Friday, April 25, 2014, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Shadyside in Pittsburgh.
Born Aug. 20, 1948, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Matts, Sr. and Anna M. (Maloney) Matts.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War.
On Oct. 5, 1973, he married Sylvia M. (Cilladi) Matts. She survives.
He retired from Brockway Glass after 28 years of service.
Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.
John Groves Maine, 77, of Rochester Mills, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Nov. 16, 1936, in DuBois, the son of the late attorney Robert Vincent and Emma (Groves) Maine.
On Oct. 21, 1967, he married the former Virginia "Ginger" Louise Mottorn. She survives.
John attended Mercersburg Academy and was a graduate of Cornell University.
He worked for Rockwell International in DuBois and later transferred to Houston, Texas, with the company.
He then became a realtor and sold real estate in Houston for about four years.
Harold R. Pearce, 85, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, April 25, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Warren and Bessie (Neal) Pearce.
He was married to Louise Couch on Nov. 5, 1949. She preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1978.
He then married Irene Martz on Dec. 8, 1979, in Punxsutawney.
He retired in 1990 as the Plant Manager of D.G. Mock Oil Company in
Punxsutawney and also served for years as a Punxsutawney Police Officer.
Rev. John N. Kunselman, 77, of Youngsville and formerly of Punxsutawney, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, April 23, 2014.
He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in Elbon, Pa.
Rev. Kunselman attended God's Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating in 1960.
In the summer of 1959, he spent two months in Cuba doing missionary work with the Rev. and Mrs. Shreeve.
He began his ministry at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Springcreek in 1960, serving there until 1967.
Daniel Craig Newcome, 74, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He was born Aug. 25, 1939, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late William and Clara (Beer) Newcome.
He held a masterâ€™s degree in education and was a schoolteacher.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy.
Gretchen Irene Pattison, 73, of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Punxsutawney, a daughter of the late Ashael and Mary (Welsh) Pattison.
Ms. Pattison was a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church and was active and involved with the church events and functions.
Gretchen had previously worked at Prammco/Sportswear, Hoffman Diamond Products, Brookville Glove Factory and, lastly, as a lunch monitor at West End and Longview Elementary schools.
Maxine Seger, 96, of Lower Burrell, formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Fairwinds Manor in Sarver.
Services were private for family, and burial was at Worthville Cemetery.
Arrangements were through the McCabe Funeral Home of Punxsutawney.
