Betty E. Myers, 87, Worthville, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at McKinley Health Center in Brookville.
She was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Rural Valley, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles Shaffer and Alma Glontz Shaffer.
On March 31, 1946, in Worthville, she married Harry I. â€śCalâ€ť Myers, who survives. They were married for 67 years.
Betty worked at Sylvania in Brookville, as a waitress at Ruth & Harryâ€™s Restaurant in Punxsutawney, and also as a caregiver and nurseâ€™s aid at Blose-McGregor Nursing Home in Punxsutawney.
William G. â€śGurnâ€ť Satterlee, 83, Mahaffey, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at home.
He was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Marion Center, the son of the late William F. and Esther C. (Good) Satterlee.
On March 21, 1997, he married Beverly K. Campbell, who survives.
He was a member of the Mahaffey United Methodist Church.
He was a graduate of the Marion Center Class of 1950.
He served two years in the U.S. Navy in the early 1950s.
He was a member of the Masons and the Shriners.
On May 15, 1959, he started his own business, William G. Satterlee and Sons.
Lois Marie Schumacker, 79, of Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Rossiter, a daughter of the late Rheed and Edna (Henry) States.
Mrs. Schumacker was Methodist by faith.
She enjoyed word puzzles, reading the Bible, crocheting and needlepoint. She was a tremendous help in caring for her grandson, John Paul Holeva, during his illness.
Richard G. Pence, 84, Ringgold, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Jefferson Manor, Brookville.
He was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Brookville, a son of the late Dolly Agnes (Shreckengost) and Foster Grant Pence.
On July 5, 1951, he married Lois (Shirey) Pence, who survives.
He was a member of the Ringgold United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Ringgold Fire Company, the New Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #522 and a Scout Leader.
He was retired from Citizen Utilities of New Bethlehem.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved woodworking, tying flies and loading shells.
Larry Boyd â€śSqueakâ€ť Smith, 68, Canoe Ridge Road, Rossiter died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at home with his loving family.
Born on April 17, 1945, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Virgil and L. Marie (Knisley) Smith.
On Jan. 4, 1965, he married the former Jane Marie Hofman. She survives.
Prior to his retirement in 2007, Larry worked as a coal miner at Greenwich Colliers, he was a mechanic for Murray Ford, Don Vite, Conradâ€™s, and the Brookville Truck Stop and was a foreman for Whipstock.
Mona Elaine Davidson, 73, most recently of Lemoyne, Pa., passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, while in the company of family, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa. Mrs. Davidson is formerly of Freeport, PA.
Mona was born in Ernest, Pa., on March 24, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Lorena Rebecca (Shafer) Lettie and Elmer Leroy Lettie of Punxsutawney. She was one of seven children, with two brothers and four sisters. She was a 1957 graduate of Punxsutawney Area Joint High School.
Boyd A. Ferringer, Jr., 83, of Fairmount City, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Golden Living in Clarion.
He was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Fairmount City, a son of the late Boyd A. and Naomi Ruth (Smith) Ferringer, Sr.
Mr. Ferringer served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud to have served his country.
On April 29, 1960, he married the former, Martha Jean Bracken. She survives.
He was a member of the Oakland Church of God.
Boyd previously worked for Crawford Furniture, Bracken's Construction and Clarion Homes.
William J. â€śJiggsâ€ť Covatch, Sr., 86 of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, Oct.r 7, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Mr. Covatch was born on Nov. 24, 1926, in Rossiter, a son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Barnett) Covatch.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nancy L. (Restifo) Covatch on April 23, 2002 â€” they were married March 24, 1951 â€” and by his son, William Jerry Covatch, Jr., on Oct. 12, 1985.
He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War.
Helen F. Huss, 104, formerly of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Stoneridge Towne Center in Myerstown, Pa.
She was born Oct. 7, 1909, in Walston, the daughter of the late Stephen and Suzan Golias.
She was married to Paul A. Huss, who preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1998.
She is survived by one grandson, Daniel Ranshaw of Myerstown, Pa.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ranshaw; two brothers, George and Stephen Golias; and by four sisters, Martha, Anna, Mary and Helen.
Frank C. Cackowski, 74, of Rochester Mills, formerly of Latrobe, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Cackowski was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Loylahanna, Pa., a son of the late Marcus and Mary (Kubistek) Cackowski.
He was married to Barbara E. (Pluchinsky) Cackowski, who survives, of Rochester Mills. They were married Dec. 22, 1978.
He was a member of SS. Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church.
Frank was retired after 42 years at Latrobe Steel, and after retirement, he became interested in beef farming.
