Jenevie L. Depp, 90

Jenevie L. Depp, 90, of Manor, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in her home.

She was born May 2, 1922, in Ringgold, a daughter of the late Carl and Myrtle Gaston Yeager.

She was a member of the Manor First United Church of Christ and the Eastern Star of Jeannette.

She worked with Meals on Wheels for more than 20 years in Greensburg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Vern, Walter, Carl, William and John Yeager; and a sister, Dorothy Miller.

Ronald Alan Hook, 67

Ronald Alan Hook, 67, of Decker’s Point, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, Ill., with his loving wife by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.

The son of Michael and Mary (Betsa) Hook, he was born on Feb. 10, 1945, in Banks Twp., Indiana County, Pa.

Ron was a lifetime member of the SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Urey, Pa., where he would assist with the reading of the Epistle.

Hazel Johnson Reed, 96

Hazel Johnson Reed, 96, of Punxsutawney, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, surrounded by family.

She was the owner of The Nut Shop in Punxsutawney from 1936 to 1963.

Sally Dym Solomon, 72

Beloved mother, teacher and friend to many, Dr. Sally Solomon (1940-2013), died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, suddenly and unexpectedly of complications related to the flu.

Solomon was a chemistry professor at Drexel University (still teaching classes this semester), a published author and an avid sports fan.

Solomon ran a cooking school in Philadelphia in the 70s and appeared on many cooking shows and in articles related to food, including in the Inquirer.

Jake M. Caylor, 78

Jake M. Caylor, 78, of DuBois, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Montifore in Pittsburgh.

He was born Feb. 15, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Clarence and Radie (Mauk) Caylor.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In 1961, he married Josephine “Jo” M. (Yeafol) Caylor. She survives.

He retired from McLean Publishing Company, working at the DuBois Courier-Express, after 43 years of service.

Donald J. “Jim” Hemke, 62

Donald J. “Jim” Hemke, 62, Reynoldsville, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born Sept. 8, 1950, in Pittsburgh, a son of Charles L. and Mary Ellen (Williams) Hemke.

On June 16, 1974, he married Peggy J. (Cordaro) Hemke, who survives.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Paradise, Pa.

He was employed by the S & S Coal Company for over 40 years as a heavy equipment operator.

He enjoyed muzzleloader hunting, hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Arthur Glenn Wyant, 80

Arthur Glenn Wyant, 80, of New Bethlehem, died Monday morning, Jan. 21, 2013, at Clarion Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1932, in Porter Township, Clarion County, a son of A. Banks and Gladys G. (Burns) Wyant.

He married Imogene L. (Powell) on June 11, 1954.

Art graduated from New Bethlehem High School in 1951.

He farmed all of his life.

He also served in the United States Army from March 1958 to March 1960, and then with the Army Reserve until February 1964.

George Samuel Couch, 78

January 20, 2013

George Samuel Couch, 78, of Punxsutawney, entered God’s Kingdom of Heaven on his heavenly train ride Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.

He was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Bell Township, Jefferson County, a son of the late George Wetley and Pearl Myrtle (Vasbinder) Couch.

George was the last member of his family.

Mr. Couch was a Staff Sargeant of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict.

On March 22, 1958, he married the former Mary Evelyn Stiver, who survives.

She was a devoted wife and caregiver, and they celebrated 54 years of marriage together.

Donald Vite, 59

Donald J. Vite, 59, of Penn Run, formerly of Rossiter, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Vite was born Sept. 11, 1953, in Rossiter, a son of Donald J. Vite and Kathryn (Williams) Vite, who survive, of Indiana.

Sept. 18, 1976, Donald married his wife, Lorna R. (Hunter) Vite, who survives, of Penn Run.

He was a truck driver for 32 years for various companies, including his father's company, Donald J. Vite Trucking.

He most recently drove for New Century Transportation, where he was lead driver teaching the job to younger drivers.

Daryl J. Barrett, 57

January 18, 2013

Daryl J. Barrett, 57, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Dubois Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 7, 1955, a son of Roy C. and Reatha V. (McElwayne) Barrett.

On Sept. 16, 1978, he married Janeen (Burkett) Barrett, who survives.

He was a member of the First Church of God of Punxsutawney.

He worked as a police communications officer for the Pennsylvania State Police Punxsutawney Barracks for 12 years.
