Andrew S. Laska, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Wellington Heights.
Mr. Laska was born on March 8, 1924, in Sportsburg, a son of the late Zolti and Julia (Grabetz) Laska.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marie (Quashnock) Laska on Jan.
He was a graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and a member of the Sportsburg United Methodist Church.
Mr. Laska was a US Army Veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific.
Matthew Paul Ruffner, 34, Chief Warrant Officer 3, of Susquehanna Township, Pennsylvania, formerly of Level Green, Pa., died Tuesday April 9, 2013, as the result of injuries sustained while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
Born Nov. 18, 1978, in Punxsutawney, Matthew was the son of Charles and Diane (Gardner) Ruffner of Glen Campbell.
Mary L. Lippert-Thorp, 79, of Grampian, formerly of Rochester Mills, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Knickerbocker Villa in Curwensville.
Mary was born July 14, 1933, in Curwensville, a daughter of the late Robert O. and Helen (Hoover) Blackburn.
She was married to William Thorp of Grampian. He survives.
Mary was a member of the CMA Church in Punxsutawney, where she worked for the district office for 31-and-a-half years.
She was the Indiana County, Grant Township Coordinator for ICCAP and the former treasurer of Pine Grove Cemetery.
Earl R. Sherry, 82, Girard, Ohio, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mr. Sherry was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Punxsutawney, a son of Charles and Alice Hawk Sherry.
A 1949 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Earl moved to Girard in 1950 and worked as a crane operator for Youngstown Sheet and Tube and later LTV.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving stateside as a
survival instructor during the Korean Conflict.
His wife, the former Helen Berger, whom he married June 8, 1957, died Nov. 24, 2003.
Ruth A. Young, 87, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.
She was born May 21, 1925, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Otto and Mary (Mee) Ott.
She married Robert L. Young, who preceded in her in death.
She was a devoted wife and mother.
She was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Surviving relatives include two sons, William R. Young and wife Janice of Punxsutawney and Ronald A. Young and wife Elizabeth â€śBetsyâ€ť Young of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Margaret Wachter of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren,
James Earl Bennett, 78, of Ridgway, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
He was born Aug. 7, 1934, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late James Robert and Ella Grace (McQuown) Bennett.
On June 15, 1957, he married the former Diane Dunmire. She survives.
He served in the United States Army after the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Bennett worked at Airco Carbon in St. Marys and Punxsutawney.
He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping.
He was fondly known as â€śPapaâ€ť by his grandchildren and great
grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
Chamnian L. Sharp, 65, Punxsutawney, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at home.
She was born July 27, 1947, in Bangkok, Thailand.
She was married to John B. Sharp, who survives.
She loved playing bingo, fishing and spending time with her family.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Mike Burkes of Pittsburgh and
Mark Burkes of Worthville; three grandchildren, Ali Brooks of Rossiter, Kiel Brooks of Big Run and Devon Brooks of Pittsburgh; and Mike and Markâ€™s father, Mark Lowman and wife Paula.
She was preceded in death by Mike and Markâ€™s grandparents, Hugh and Isabelle Lowman.
Lorraine D. "Scott" Fetterman, 80, of Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Mr. Fetterman was born Aug. 30, 1932, in DeLancey, a son of the late James C. and Linnie (Black) Fetterman.
He is survived by his wife, Marian (Goulish) Fetterman of Punxsutawney.
He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Byzantine Church.
Mr. Fetterman worked for Symmco 10 years before retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening, yard work, horseshoes and, most of all, time with his family.
Matson D. Blose, Jr., 87, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Matson D. Blose, Sr. and Carrie (Lewis) Blose.
On March 23, 1945, he married Anna Lou Wolfe, who survives.
They had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
He was a member of SS.C.D.
He was a sergeant in the Air Force and served during World War II.
He was the owner of M. Blose and Sons Scrap Yard in Walston, Pa.
Helen G. Brickell, 92, of Smithport, Pa., died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.
The daughter of George Ray and Lillian (Williams) Brickell, she was born on Feb. 3, 1921, in Banks Twp., Indiana County.
Helen was a lifelong member of the Wilgus Wesleyan Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer.
For 30 years, she was employed as a seamstress at Sportswear in Punxsu-
tawney, prior to her retirement in 1984.
