Sophia Gabriel Pearce, newborn infant, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Born Dec. 13, 2013, Sophia was the daughter of Kenesha Channelle Pearce of Glen Campbell and Derek Robert Miller of Indiana.
Surviving relatives include her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Wendy (Burge) Pearce of Glen Campbell; her maternal great-grandfather, Robert Pearce of Home; her paternal grandparents, Patty (Himes) Grant and husband Dave of Indiana and Jim Miller and wife Tracy of Rossiter; and her paternal great-grandparents, Robert and Grace Himes of Rochester Mills.
Frederick James Acre, 75, of Anita, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Harold Frederick Acre and Georgeina (Hobba) Podgers, who survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
Fred served in the United States Air Force. He was very patriotic and proud of his service to our country.
On March 10, 1962, he married Helen Marlene Kuntz. They celebrated 50 loving years together.
He worked as a welder, first with Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel, and later for Jefferson Machine for over 25 years.
Gerald "Jerry" Edward Battaglia, 71, of Brookville, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Scenery Hill Manor in Indiana.
Born Oct. 12, 1942, in Brookville, he was a son of the late Edward Dominick and Josephine Frances (Cesario) Battaglia.
Mr. Battaglia was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
"Jerry" was co-owner of the former of Jerry's Pizza Shop in Brookville.
He was a member of the Brookville Eagles No. 983, and a former social member of Brookville and Pine Creek fire companies.
Jerry was a well-known character in the downtown area of Brookville.
Robert M. Boston, 62, Rossiter, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.
He was born on April 19, 1951, a son of the late Frances and Anna Elizabeth âBettyâ (Esposito) Boston.
On April 19, 1975, he married Darlene M. Ankeny, who survives.
He had two daughters and a grandson who he loved greatly.
He was a member of the Uniontown Church of Christ in Cherry Tree.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Air Defense Artillery during the Vietnam War.
He was employed by Jefferson Grocery where he worked as a warehouseman and a truck driver.
Neal D. Davis, 88, of Smithville, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, Pa.
The son of David and Blanche (Neil) Davis, he was born on June 4, 1925, in Canoe Twp., Indiana County.
Neal served in the U.S. Navy as seaman second class during World War II.
He had worked as a truck driver for Interstate Amesite and as a rock truck driver for Benjamin Coal Company.
Neal had hauled local coal for years, as well as driving truck for Murray âMurfâ Smith.
Neal enjoyed stock car racing.
James L. Jones, 69, Reynoldsville, died at 7:02 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center in DuBois.
James, the son of the late Orland D. and Dorothy L. (Martin) Jones of Reynoldsville, was born on Dec. 9, 1944.
He married his wife, Judy C. (Burkett) Jones of Reynoldsville, on Feb. 17, 1968. She survives.
James served in the United States Army (SP4) during Vietnam.
He was a retired truck driver for W&W Equipment and Jefferson Paving.
Helen Louise Caylor, 101, a longtime resident of Punxsutawney, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Shippenville on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, surrounded by her family.
Born April 8, 1912, in Grange, Pa., she was a daughter of the late David (Bert) Brosius and Martha Elizabeth Fleming.
On June 24, 1932, she married Claude C. Caylor, and they shared 69 years of laughter and love together, working, gardening, fishing, hunting and visiting with friends and family. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2002.
Thomas Quentin "Tucker" Craft, 93, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, peacefully, surrounded by his family and his close friend, Irene Grube, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Mr. Craft was born in Punxsutawney on Jan. 22, 1920.
He was a descendant of Abraham Craft, a pioneer settler of the Punxsutawney area.
He was married 65 years to his sweetheart, Doris Marcella (Heeter) Craft, who preceded him in death.
Together they raised three daughters who gave them six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
James E. Hanson, 78, of DuBois, formerly of Marienville, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1935, in DuBois, the son of Charles and Alta Hanson.
On Dec. 2, 1956, he married the former Sandra Anderson, who preceded him in death in 2004.
Mr. Hanson worked as a PBX repairman for what was Bell Telephone, AT&T and is now Lucent Technology. He was a former small businessman in Marienville dealing in Maytag appliances.
He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting snowshoe rabbit and running dogs.
Josephine E. Morris, 98, Brockway, formerly of Oliveburg, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Highland View Health Care, Brockway.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1915, in Oliver Township, a daughter of the late Thomas Otto Enterline and Zelda Rae (Kuntz) Enterline.
On Aug. 8, 1943, she married Charles Stanley Morris, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1997.
She was a member of the Oliveburg Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, cooking, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a long-time member of the Ladies Aid Society.
