Fred E. Bell Jr., 67, went home to be with the Lord after a four-year battle with cancer.
Born to Fred E. Bell Sr. and Mary Alice Bell on Jan. 10, 1946, he spent most of his childhood in Punxsutawney and Pittsburgh.
He met his wife, Kathy, in Pittsburgh, and they were married Dec. 2, 1973.
In 1978, the couple moved to Mansfield, Ohio, where Fred worked for General Motors for 29 years and retired July 1, 2006.
Fred and Kathy retired to Arizona in 2010.
He was an avid hunter, could fix almost anything, enjoyed helping his friends and never expected anything in return.
Donald W. Buffington, 79, of Winter Haven, Fla., passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at The Heart of Florida Hospital after enduring a courageous 10-year battle with cancer.
He was formerly of Cogan Station, Pa.
He was born on May 25, 1934, in Beaver Township, Pa., the son of Dalton and Mary (Burkett) Buffington.
Donald was the husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Buffington. They would have observed their 59th wedding anniversary on Sept. 16, 2013.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Tank Division of the 29th Infantry at Fort Benning, Ga., from 1955 to 1957.
Michael A. "Mike" Larko, 98, of Penn Hills, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Ligonier Gardens.
Mike was the beloved husband of the late Margaret J. Larko; the father of John Larko, of Leechburg, Pa., Michael J. (Marsha) Larko, of Plum, Pa., Rev. Ronald Larko, of Uniontown, Pa., Thomas (Karen) Larko, of Punxsutawney, Anna (John) Maier, of New Florence, Pa., Patricia (Ed) Morris, of Turtle Creek, Pa., and the late Robert G. Larko; the grandfather of 16; and the great-grandfather of 11. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Alice Mary Oâ€™Dell, 58, of Indiana, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at her home.
She was born in 1954 in Punxsutawney to Mark and Bertha Froese Anthony.
Alice attended Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of the Indiana Arts Assoc.
As a Master Gardner, she enjoyed her membership in the Indiana Garden Club.
She was employed by First Commonwealth Bank for 18 years in the data processing department and finished her career as a vice president.
Lyle A. "Zoog" Welsh, 79, of Big Run, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born near Big Run on Feb. 13, 1934, the son of the late Roy James "Gabe" Welsh and Anna Lee (Davis) Welsh.
On July 3, 1954, he married the former Wilma "Billie Jo" Haag. She survives.
Mr. Welsh served in the United States Army in the Signal Corp as a field radio repairman in New Jersey and Puerto Rica during the Korean Conflict.
He received an honorable discharge in 1956.
He was a retired setup man for Rockwell Manufacturing and Invensys at the DuBois plant.
Keziah E. Filler, 90, Rossiter, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Mahoning Riverside Manor.
She was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Canoe Township, a daughter of the late Theda (Casaday) and Samuel Bowers.
She was married to Grant â€śNannersâ€ť Filler, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1988.
She attended the Canoe Ridge Church of God.
She was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Union Cemetery Association.
Mrs. Filler enjoyed spending her winters in Arizona with family.
Rose Ella Smith, 84, of Glen Campbell, Pa., died Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
She was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Penn Mary, Pa., the daughter of the late Ralph and Juanita (Fuller) Lucas.
She was married to Stanley Smith, who survives, of Glen Campbell.
She worked as a machine operator for General Electric and later as a hairdresser.
She attended the Smithport Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Raymond L. Spencer, Sr., 63, of Mayport, died suddenly on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on March 8, 1950, in Pittsburgh, the son of Samuel C. and Margaret E. (Walters) Spencer, Sr.
He married Barbara J. (Bowman) on Oct. 30, 1976, and she survives.
Raymond worked for Crawford Furniture in Fairmount City.
Louis A. Dickey, 77, of Oliveburg, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at UPMC Shadyside.
Mr. Dickey was born Oct. 22, 1935, in Reynoldsville, the son of the late Roy and Marguerite (McClincy) Dickey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, M. Sue Dickey, on June 5, 2009.
Mr. Dickey was a member of the Oliveburg Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Punxsutawney and was retired from the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau after 25 years.
Emily I. McKee, 90, of Rossiter, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home.
Mrs. McKee was born June 3, 1923, in Clearfield, the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Moore) Waring.
Emily was married to Howard D. McKee, who survives, of Rossiter. They celebrated 66 years of marriage in April.
Mrs. McKee was very active in the Plumville Presbyterian Church and attended the Steffy Church, where she was treasurer/secretary.
She was a treasurer for the Steffy Ladies and secretary/treasurer for the Devers Cemetery Association.
